Victor Anichebe cheered on 1,000 runners taking part in the annual Summer Fun Run in Crosby recently.
The striker, who grew up in Crosby, is a supporter of the event organised by the Crosby Herald and Great Crosby Catholic Primary School.
The money raised will go to The Marina Dalglish Appeal and Jopice, a hospice for the terminally ill based in Thornton, near Crosby.
Families taking part in the three-mile fun run around Little Crosby wore yellow ribbons in support of missing Madeleine McCann and as Marina Dalglish sounded the horn to get runners underway the campaign's adopted theme Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds was played.
Victor teamed up with Marina and Kenny Dalglish to give out medals and he also congratulated the couple on the success of their appeal.
"It was great to see the Summer Fun Run so well supported," said Victor.
"It's a terrific community event and, of course, the main thing is that a lot of money is raised for a very worthy cause. At the end of the day it's all about fundraising and community spirit - it was terrific to see so many people turning out to support the charities."
Summer Fun Run organiser Peter Harvey said: "We're really grateful to Victor for his support. He made dreams come true for many youngsters and grown-ups."
