Strong Yak Is Back

Strong Yak Is Back

Everton legend Graeme Sharp says it's a massive boost to see the Yak back in action.

Yakubu played for the full 90 minutes in the Carling Cup defeat to Tottenham on Tuesday, showing he's now fully recovered from the achilles tendon injury he picked up at White Hart Lane a year ago.

Indeed, Sharpy believes the performance of the Nigerian international was the highlight of the match.

"I was delighted to see him back.  His touch and his awareness meant he looked sharp and he looked strong,” Sharp told evertonTV.

"He was the highlight for me personally.  Also for him to get a full game under his belt at a place where he encountered a terrible injury last season was pleasing to see."

Despite the Carling Cup run coming to an end at Spurs, Sharpy says there are positives to take from the game.

He added: "It would be easy enough to let our heads go down.  I thought it was a good effort but when we conceded the first goal it was always going to be difficult but all credit to the lads - they got back in it and they had a couple of half chances.

"I thought Tim Howard made a couple of excellent saves, he couldn't do a lot about the goals and it just wasn't to be on the night, which is disappointing.

"I know the manager was disappointed with the Benfica game and the Bolton game as well but considering it was our third game in a few days the lads coped well, and it's just unfortunate."

Extended highlights of the Carling Cup encounter at White Hart Lane will be available to view on evertonTV from 10pm on Wednesday.

DAVE HUNTERSo much doom and gloom in the air, as Sharpy said not many teams could cope with the injury list we have at the minute, The lads playing at the minute must absolutly knackered seems to be the same 11/12 players in every game. When we get our injuries sorted we will take a couple of games to get going but watch out league & europe when we do!!!

PAUL BUCKLEYThe time for all the excuses is over. We need to start winning. Come next March, April time when were at the wrong end of the table no one cares about how you have had injuries and bad luck. The only thing that matters is points and who stays up and who goes down. We n eed to get a grip, dig in and start grinding out some wins. COYB.....

Damon GodbeerMaybe there is a promise on the horizon???? But to get to that promise is to hit the back of the net, which is something were struggling to do!!! Concieding 12 goals in 5 games without a win is lookin gloomy, we should of beat, stoke, wolves at home....... and that is points throw down the drain, same at bolton, our hope is we still qualify for next round of Europa league!!! Outta the carling and a big point to prove on being last years F.A cup finalist........Our players could be bak sooner than we think but will the quality gel again!!! Fragile times!!=(
