David Moyes has revealed the Everton squad numbers for the new season - with James Beattie handed the coveted number nine jersey.
There has been much speculation regarding the new owner of the number 9 shirt following the departure of Duncan Ferguson.
And evertonfc.com can reveal that James Beattie will don the coveted jersey that was famously worn by Goodison heroes like Graeme Sharp, Bob Latchford and Dixie Dean.
Record signing Andy Johnson will wear the number 8 shirt vacated by Beattie. It is the same number he wore during his time at Crystal Palace.
The number seven jersey has been unused since the departure of Marcus Bent in January. Andy van der Meyde will now wear the shirt, moving from the number 27 last term.
The Dutchman will be hoping the number is lucky for him, after a disappointing opening season.
Everton's other new arrivals, Joleon Lescott and Tim Howard will wear 16 and 24 respectively, with Richard Wright retaining the number 1 shirt.
Tony Hibbert will now wear the number 2 shirt traditionally associated with the right back spot that he has made his own.
Other changes see Lee Carsley return to the number 26 that he wore whilst impressing in the 2004/5 season, while youngsters James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe move to numbers 22 and 28.
