Senderos Deal Agreed

The Arsenal defender joins Everton on loan until the end of the season.

Senderos Deal Agreed
Philippe Senderos

Everton and Arsenal have agreed a deal to bring Swiss international defender Philippe Senderos to Goodison Park.

The 24-year old will join the Toffees from the Emirates on loan until the end of the season.

The formalities of the transfer will be finalised in the next 48 hours and Senderos will be on Merseyside this afternoon to watch his new team in action against Birmingham in the FA Cup fourth round.

Born in Geneva, Senderos came through the ranks at his local club, Servette, before signing for The Gunners in December 2002.

He established himself as a defender of real quality and played in Arsenal’s 2005 FA Cup final win against Manchester United. He also started 2007 the League Cup final against Chelsea after being an unused substitute in the European Champions League final defeat against Barcelona twelve months earlier. He was loaned to Italian giants AC Milan for the 2008-09 season, making 15 appearances for them in Serie A.

At international level he made his debut for Switzerland in 2005 and played in the 2006 World Cup as well as the 2008 European Championships. To date he has won 33 caps for the Swiss.

DAVE HUNTERCan't believe some of the comments about our NEW FREE signings, we all know we have no money, Moyes has said all he is going to get will be free transfers and loan deals. Who were you expecting to get for free or on loan, Rooney, Terry? Until we get rich backers Senderos etc is all we are going to get. I don't think Moyes has made many mistakes in the market so let's give him a chance! We moan we have no players no cover etc. Come on eh! Support the Manager and the boys in the blue shirt!!!

Mikel ArreguiWelcome and I hope you'll grow here as a player (Moyes is an ace at that) and help us be a better team.On a side note, don't pay any attention to kopite Wilson, that's all he wants, to get us angry. It was a boring weekend for you kopites eh Wilson???

Wayne InstoneWell the jury is out regarding this guy, but Moyes usualy has an eye for players so lets hope he can steady the defence, which is not great at the moment. Dystan is ok, but thats about it. And Hietinga is not a Centre back. Come back soon jags.

Sunday 24th January 23:41 Report Comment

John MainwaringSenderos has got a career to rebuild and i'm sure Everton and Moyes will be the Ideal inspiration to do so. John Wilson do us a favour and go and "support" the kopites, with negatvity like yours they would be relegated by March!.

Xenophon LawI am the first to say I would have rather had Kilgallen but as we didn't sign him I welcome Senderos with open arms. He has a chance to prove himself and he will certainly want to put in good performances as this is a World Cup year. Moyes knows what he's doing. As for signing the Slovakian Goalkeeper....at least he's free! But I thought Ruddy was meant to be the 'Next Big Thing' for English Goalkeeping. He should have had a chance although to be kind to him, Howard has been a rock. But for every Koldrup and Jo Moyes finds an Arteta and Cahill.

Mark LynchIts nice to see mainly positive comments on here, David Moyes is the best bar non at getting Players to fulfill their potential, and if they dont then he doesnt take long to make that assessment, Per Koldrup is testimony to that... i personally think the lad has a lot to offer and i am sure that he will have fans giving him praise soon enough K.T.F

David ClarkWelcome to the People's Club Phillipe. I actually believe this will prove to be an astute signing and you are a better player than you are given credit for. Just look at the job Moyes & Co. have done with Jags & Lescott. Compare this with how good Lescott now looks without the coaching we had to support him. I hope I'm right when I say that you will also become a better player at Goodison and be worthy of the Blue defensive heritage on the day we all remember Labby.

Nick MortJust what we need ,a central defender and just what phillipe needs, a new start to prove himself again . I think moyes can get the best out of Phillipe and make the capture perminent at the end of the season,at 24 years old this could be a great capture hence it only being a loan....IMWT ..NSNO...FTRS.....ETID

John DringCant see why he came if its to get more games for the world cup ? prefer hibbo or neville as cover ! He's slower than a brick ! wenger prefered to sign campbell rather than play this fella ! another gardner/kroldrup signing.

Saturday 23rd January 14:03 Report Comment

Jeremy TinstonI reckon it's a good ove from moysie, senderos is 24 world cup coming up, he's definatley moving away from arsenal in the summer, all that added together means hes got alot to prove to prospective clubs and country. if he's got any sense he's gonna work his ass off .. so Welcome to the best and club in the world Philippe, work hard, tackle harder and u'll get all the support you could ever want and u'll never want to leave COYB's.. oh and i reckon 3-0 today.

Keith Daniel RobertsI am certain that there will be a few negative remarks forwarded about signing a player who has only played two games this season. However we must remember that we have secured the signing of a player that most other teams in the football league would bite your handoff for. Good Look Philippe! COYB!!!!!!!

Saturday 23rd January 13:16 Report Comment

Mick EganWith a lot of games coming up, it's a welcome addition to the squad. He maybe out of favour at Arsenal, but he will want to do well to obtain a place in the world cup squad for his country. Welcome to the club and good luck to you!! In Moyes I Trust!!! COYB....

Saturday 23rd January 12:57 Report Comment

Gerry GilroyBest of luck to Philippe. But leaving a club that doesn't defend the best makes me a bit wary but we're all in agreement that the gaffer always chooses well and if it don't work out he'll be the first one to smell it on the horizon and act accordingly. Anyways I hope it works out for all parties concerned. WE SHALL BE GREAT AGAIN! COYB!

Cason TangGood signing. Yobo's health has been uncertain whle Jag won't be fit soon enough. Senderos with one eye in the world cup will definitely fight with heart and soul to ensure he is in this summer. Now Senderos, show us what you can do on the pitch and help us keep clean sheet one after another. Welcome!

John ByrnePersonally I would have prefered to keep Neill but who am I to question Moysie? Phillipe is a blue now so i'd like to say welcome and wish him all the best, hopefully the competition for places in defence will bring the best out in him.

Paul Ellamhappy enough with that! i know people have their reservations but its not like he has plied his trade at non-league level - the 2 teams he has played for are arsenal and ac milan and thats not a bad cv in my book. i welcome his arrival and even if he only plays a small part, it might be an important part. well done moyes

michael ananinsDon't dwell on his recent form people. Moyes will get the best out of him. he will improve with us. Goodison was brilliant last Saturday. Best it's been all season ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!!!

Andrew NorrisNever really rated the lad but let's just hope that moyes can make him a good player and adapt to the everton way! COYB!!!!

Saturday 23rd January 12:24 Report Comment

James OswaldGood cover, Moyes knows defence and a good defender. Never signed a poor one yet. He's also young so if Moyes does see promise and he can shape him further why not get him full time in the summer? Wih Yobo on his way as soon as the blue can get rid of him, we need cover. Really pleased with the January work going on if even half the rumours are to be believed. Yet again, Moyes and his team are working their magic. In Moyes We Trust
