Second Lescott Bid Rejected
Everton have rejected Man City's new offer of £18m for Joleon Lescott.
Everton have rejected Manchester City's latest offer of £18m for Joleon Lescott.
City contacted the Club with an increased bid for the central defender but the Blues have turned down the offer.
Earlier this summer, the Eastlands club had a bid of £15m rejected, with David Moyes declaring that no player will leave Everton this summer without his approval.
Lescott is currently in the USA with the rest of the Everton squad.
A Club statement read: "Everton Football Club can confirm it has received an offer of £18m for Joleon Lescott from Manchester City and that offer has been rejected outright."
Everton signed Lescott from Wolves in 2006 and the player has gone on to become a regular in both the Blues' starting XI and the England national squad.

Nathan FullerI think Lescott is a great member of the team but can we afford to turn down £22m? Is he worth £22m? I am a great fan of hi but I honestly believe we could sign a better player for £22m. I must applaud Moyes and especially Kenwright though for sticking to their guns and saying we are no longer a selling club. My heart says keep him but my head says let him go. My only worry being I think unfortunately we have left it late to go and find players again. Maybe we should have been chasing the likes of Toure before City got their claws in. If we don't strngthen soon 7th is about the best we can hope for this season, which is a worry.

John HauWe should tell City life isn't just always about the money, and if City want to do things the Chelsea way and that is fine, but do it cleanly not behind the back by trying to provoke the player's agent and the player itself on personal term offer, you have no right to do so, without our permission. We got to tell City no matter how much money you offer, you won't get the player unless we accepted your offer. If you want to buy your way to success, fair enough but since we do not have to sell one of our best CB to finance any transfer deal and not to mention we are short on number with Jagielka injured, Jacobsen & Valente left us, the offer would have to be big, not something like 20M or 30M, it would have to be enough money for us to buy 4-5 top player. For me I do not want Lescott to leave at all, but if it has to happen then the money has to be enough for Moyes to get all the player he wanted this summer.

Kenneth TelfordHere we go again, seems like the Rooney saga all over again. will he, wont he?? We need to strenghten our team not weaken it. If Lescott wants to leave for the money then fine, let him go. But do it now so we can use the money to replace him, not wait until it's to late. And as last year we have been linked with loads of players, yet who have we signed? One player from the U.S. Daja vue seems like summer 2008 all over again

Mike Moranonce again fans have had wool pulled over their eyes at everton, all the success we had last season will all be for nothing, more promises broken on the back of more season tickets being sold more shirts being sold, when will the fans learn and get a fair deal off the club, i think never and it breaks my heart. Kevin Cooperif man city give us 22 million for lescott, and he wants to go, its good business. bassong would be a good foil for jagielka, for about ten million and van der vaart is available for 12 million. failing that, we could get lucas neill for free, and miguel veloso from sporting for about 13 million.

Michael HalesI would just like to give my take on the Jolean Lescott saga. I am a season ticket holder and seen most of Lescott`s home performances. There is np question that he has improved since David Moyes has had him. He is prone to losing concentration and causing problems at the back. He is cover for Baines. He dosen`t put his body on the line like Jagielka. We are commited to improving and pushing on for Cups at home and in europe. Even if we get £25 m for Lescott where are we going to get that versatility. Moyes is right. No one leaves. Moyes needs to get a squad player as cover for the centre backs and a right back to cover Hibbert and class holding midfielder. You`re in my heart and sould coyb

Maybe spend 15 mil on defour that would leave 3 mil surely we could add another 3 to buy Delph for 6 total outlay 3 mil. 1 player out 3 in result!! Come on lets sort it Everton for ever

Saturday 1st August 19:22 Report CommentJohn Hau25M is a great deal you got to be kidding? If Kolo Toure is worth 15M then Lescott is easily worth at least the double, as I don't rate Kolo at all, and don't forget Lescott is one of the most important player in the heart of our defence and with Jagielka out long-term is going to take alot more than 30M for us to accept a bid, also remember we don't have to sell no player to finance any transfer deal, so it could be 40M, may be even 50M and who knows it could be 60M. What ever bid we might accept it would certainly be a World record transfer fees for a defender.

John CoadyI would defo deal at 25m. Thats a superb return on an outlay of 5m. Most of us blues fans feel the same. We can all see that it is excellent buisness, providing there is sufficient cover that is! I see Phillippe Senderous is being bandied as Lescotts possible replacement? At 6m im not too sure and you just know for a fact Moyesey will be trying to knock that price down a bit. I dont blame him either. Hes been ok for Arsenal and has experience at the highest level. Hes also prone to the odd howler or two. Being surplus to requirements at Arsenal is nothing to be ashamed about. They have some great players. If we get 25m and spend 5 or 6 on a class replacement then its all good. The only upset for us is that Moyesy prob wont get the whole 25m to spend on new players. Its been said about the difference the Rooney cash made to us and this can be the same. COYB!

We dont need to, and cant afford to, he is our only fit centre back with yobo!!! unless we got someone else in first he goes no-where! I personally wouldnt sell him, even if he wanted to go, after all its not like he can sulk and not give his all with the world cup being next season, cuz if he did he'd put his place in that at jeopardy!!! Hope moyes continues to give city the 2 fingers and that lescott comitts, and i pray the rumour i saw about senderos in for lescott are someones idea of a joke!!!

Saturday 1st August 09:22 Report CommentJames WilkinsonI agree with most of you, i think if we got an offer of 30 mil we should take it, but other than that keep him, he is invaluable to our squad becasue he can defend and is potent at set pieces, how about stop worrying about bids for our players and concentrate on bringing in a center back, midfielder (center and right winger) and possibly a right back. I cant believe we missed on Cana, how could he go to Sunderland for only 6 mil, would have been great in my opinion, Moyes we really need these new signings now, because they need time to gel inwith the rest of the squad, as the days pass im fearing we are going to have a repeat if last season where we were horrible in the beginning, we cannot afford to do that when arsenal is first, PLEASE MOYES BRING IN SOME NEW PLAYERS, there is two weeks left, PLEASE, COYB!!

Pearse DoreLescott is vital to us, as is every other player we have at the moment. The trust we have in Moyes is being tested by this. He said no more players will leave and I hope he sticks to that statement. Oh and if any sports reporters are reading this, please write something about players possibly coming to Everton. Its been quite boring this summer and torture at times. Its great announcing record turnovers, its even better when you spend that money.

Good "teams" win championships not a collection of talented players. Moyes reminds me of Bill Belicheck winning 3 Super Bowls with mostly unhearalded players who stayed together for several years and really came together as a team. I'm hoping he keeps Lescott and continues to build a strong team.

Possibility of Jack able to play Central Defence is comforting, until we find the right (available) defender from the transfer market, with extra +_25 mil can get around easier on transfer market and probably to give better contract for rest of the squad to stay, and of course it can be used to pay clubs debts.

Mark CurtisThis is a definate sign that Everton are going places. 6 or more seasons ago Lescott would have been sold on the first bid. As for Lescott saying whether he wants to stay or go is really tough for him, I wish like all Evertonians that he would make a statement, but for him i think he is better keeping quiet (to the public) at the moment as that should be between Lescott and Moyes. Lescott is being sensible and can comment after his future has been decided. He is in a win/win situation.

They've taken the fun out of football and this is much worse than what chelsea did a few years ago! We on the other hand are at the opposite end of the transfer spectrum as we havn't signed anyone! It's ok to be patient in the transfer market, but this is ridiculous! We've got some great players, but many of them are injured, so we need to add some more quality players to our tiny squad before it gets completely dessimated next season!

Sean CampbellCity have that much money why dont they just make a 'cant refuse bid' such as 30 million? As many people are asking I would also like to know whether Jolean actually wants to stay or go. There was trouble with Anicheobe because they wouldn't let him go, I just hope we don't have it again with Lescott.

James Robertswell done moyes for holding on, any other manager would of just let him go. man city should not be allowed to bully clubs into selling players!! we especially need to hold on to all our players as we dont have the sort of money they have

John CaveI am so delighted to have Joleon staying at Goodison. Like has already been stated though, I wish he would come out and state publically he wants to stay. After all he is contarcted to 2012!

Cathy CondronTotally agree with Michael Perryman. Lescott should come out and say if he wants to go or not like John Terry has! Evertons pre-season is always too much to bare with not many great signings to date.....so the longer this Lescott saga goes on the more us Blues are getting "worn out" before the season kicks off! I'l have no nails left if this isnt sorted soon! Dig your heels in Mr Moyes and dont let him go! However much you get for him the next club you buy from will want a chunk of that money! So dont let him go P L E A S E!

David GrundyJason - Football clubs are big business now. Do you really think they should divulge to the outside world everything that is going on inside the Club? I appreciate its frustrating with all the tabloid speculation etc, but please just trust DM + thhe Board and don't expect them to share the internal affairs with the outside world.

Barry GrayMan City's behaviour in this has been reprehensible - on the one hand you've got Hughes saying they want to do everything above board; on the other hand you've got "leaked" reports to the press of how much Hughes likes Lescott as a player, Lescott getting up to 3 times his current salary if he moves and suggestions that he should hand in a transfer request to secure the move! This is tapping up in all but name and the FA should be bringing City to book for it. Jolean needs to think long and hard about what he really wants - European football, a team that plays for each other and a crack at the next World Cup, or money and a bunch of prima donnas who play for... even more money. I can guarantee that if Real come calling for any City players next summer, they'll be off quick than you can Sheik a stick. But if Joleon does ask for a move, then he'd better tell his new paymasters to stump up his real value - if they were prepared to pay £40m for Terry then Lescott is worth £30m minimum .

Bernie O'Harai think Jolean lescott needs to do a john terry and show the manager team and fans his commitment to them moving to man city can only be mony motivated they are not in the europa cup and the team mark hughes is assembeling to buy the premiership title with is too new to gel so nothing doing there come on jolean your a great player money isnt everything
Thursday 30th July 10:21 Report Commentmichael perrymanI wish Lescott would come out and tell people if he wants to stay or go. If he wants to go then fine but we should be looking at 30m not 20m. If he goes then It will only be for money not football as everybody knows City will no break into top 6.

Jason SaggersI just wish the club would be honest with us when it comes to transfer dealings, every year they run out the smae drivel, "were making progress" "were going to support DM" . Just be honest and tell us no signings unless on Free transfer or we have to sell to buy. Stop treating us like idiots.

David GrundyMan City value Joleon at £18m. Everton value Joleon higher. Surely that should tell him something - we want yoy more than City do. We showed the faith when we bought you from Wolves. You know there were difficulties there but Everton resurrected your career. Where were the other Premiership clubs then? You have an excellent contract, an excellent reputation. You have won England caps for your performances at left back and centre back. The fans love you and we have a team building itself, without a blank cheque Arab owner behind it. Now that IS special!!! Please stay and be part of our dream. I believe each one of the existing top 4 are struggling to maintain their strength of last year. So are Villa. We are better, so will Man C be. It should be a great season and I really believe we are pushing back into the top 4 and a Champions League place for 2010 - 2011. COYB!!!!!

Gareth RoutledgeI think they have a cheek not only the way they are doing business but they know the price if they want him so why offer 18mill they are playing games, but saying that i still think 20mill plus a player would be a good bit of business Lesscot a good player but when his confidence is he's a bit shaky.

David ChaitIf Jolean stays.. he will become a club legend earning more than enough to have everything he ever dreamed of. If he leaves he will just grow a bank balance and become just another player. I know which I would choose.

Mark Lynchi lke everyone else am a bit concered that Lecott hasn't declared his loyalty, that said it doesnt mean he wants to go, but if thats the case and he does go then i think at least £25 million and Micha richards would be a fair price to pay, not that i think Micha is worthless, just if they want him that badly then make them pay, please dont just hold out for a few million more than they are offering, we will need a replacement and i think Richards is an able candidate to take over from Lescott and it will free the money to fund another area of the pitch ie: holding midfielder and right back... personally tho i dont want Lescott to go, but we dont all get what we wish for!!!

Gary ByrneI agree with James Mason. I'm worried that he will go because he has said nothing about it. In fairness, it could be that Joleon has a lot more respect than most and thinks he doesn't have to broadcast it to the world as he may have told the team that there's no way he's leaving, no matter what the money is. As long as the team know this and he shows us on the pitch how much he wants to stay then great. Just hope he's not thinking of going to a team who will finish below us anyway!

andrew Lancasterthis is great news, im am sick and tired of city thinking they can have enyone they want just cause they have more money than enyone else, doesnt mean they have the right to point at a player and he walks into there team its not all about money to some players it actualy about football and i think city have forgot that, they should have more respect not just for us but for any team when we/ they say NOT FOR SALE it means what it says. nowJoleon come out and tell city were to go and win some silverware with the team in TOFFEE blue not MONEY blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ajamu MutumwaMan City sound like a team who know the price of everything and the value of nothing. My language would have been more robust, but hopefully the press will at last pick up on the words "rejected outright".
Thursday 30th July 03:12 Report CommentJames MasonI worry that he's going to go. Has no-one noticed that he hasn't appeared (to my knowledge) in any of the marketing campaigns for the new strips & neither the opening of the new stores? I think he'll wind up asking to go for triple his wages and then Moyes will say "I don't want a player that wants to leave". That way Moyes hasn't backed down and Everton get a fee. I really hope he stays. JT proved that not every1 says yes though why do they all stay silent and then say they never intended to leave? We've got the Europa league and a solid team so if Joleon goes it's completely for the £. I have to say we should've had 3-4 new signings to take on this USA trip & if not why not cancel the trip, play closer to home and sort them out. Every season it appears we wait until deadline day and then they have had no time to gel come the start of the season. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!!!

John CheeversStand firm Davie! If they want him then they can pay what HE's worth TO US!! But only if he wants to go. I'll walk just that bit taller all day today knowing that MY club will not stoop to City's "cash for silverware" player grab!!
Thursday 30th July 02:45 Report CommentMark WhitehouseGood lad Moyesy, keep hold of him! A few quality additions is all we are needing for a top 4 finish, and we are of course in Europe, in a world cup year. What have City got to offer other than a team that won't gel and who's bosses will panic by sacking their manager by christmas! I just hope Joleon realises that his ambitions can and will be met here. I.M.W.T

Dan DickensonI said from the beginning he's not going because if (soon to be) Sir David Moyes says hes not selling then he's not selling. Theres no benefit from selling lescott coz if yet again Moyes can find some unheard off talent from somewhere then it going to take time for them to gel and when where going for forth we cant waist time on stuff like that. Lets face it even though City can triple his wages so what he earns £40,000 grand a week anyway its still a hell of a lot of money and its not like he NEEDS and more so come on Jolean get some clean sheets and goals because your in my fantasy league team.
