Round Reveals Moyes Promise
Assistant boss says he was lured by David Moyes' desire to succeed.
Everton assistant manager Steve Round has revealed how David Moyes has already fulfilled the promise which lured him to the Club.
Round became part of the Blues' coaching staff in July 2008 after the manager convinced him he would be joining a Club which would be competing for top honours.
Ten months on, Round is preparing to take the side to Wembley for the FA Cup final and, while he never had doubts about the move to Goodison, he knows his decision has been fully vindicated.
“From day one the manager sold it to me that this was an ambitious club searching for trophies and looking to be challenging for a place in the Champions League," said Round.
“He said he wanted me to help them take that journey and that’s why I came here.
“He pointed out that at Everton it’s never about one individual. It’s never just about the coach, the manager or a particular player.
“We’re all in this together looking for trophies. This weekend is a tremendous opportunity for this club to take the next step and win something. It’s an exciting time and I’m immensely looking forward to it.”
Saturday's clash with Chelsea will see Round involved in a final for the third time in five years.
In 2004 he helped Steve McClaren guide Middlesbrough to Carling Cup glory before leading them to within touching distance of the Uefa Cup two years later.
Having experienced both the joys of victory and the agony of defeat, Round knows what it takes to win. In Moyes, he sees an unparalleled determination to succeed.
“David has got a tremendous intensity and desire to be successful," he said. "There’s never a stone left unturned and his attention to detail is amazing.
“Hopefully we’ll go on and win the Premier League and the Champions League. If you ask the manager he will tell you that’s his dream and he sets the vision.”
Steve Round discussed the things which attracted him to Everton, the impact of fans during the FA Cup semi-final and much more when he spoke to evertonTV.
