RIGHT DIRECTION
Lee Carsley on his wonder goal against Birmingham City.
Lee Carsley insists the Blues are heading in the right direction following the 3-1 victory over Birmingham City.
The result over Steve Bruce’s side was Everton’s fourth consecutive win –something that has not been achieved in more than 13 years.
Carsley’s sublime volley deep into injury-time sealed a dramatic victory at Goodison Park with James Vaughan popping up moments later to net Everton’s third of the afternoon.
Speaking exclusively to evertonTV, Carsley admits there was a bit of luck involved with his strike.
“I should have scored in the first-half – I had a great chance. Mikel did really well and I side footed it straight at the goalkeeper and perhaps I should have done better,” he said.
“The gaffer said at half-time to start putting my foot through it a bit more and luckily enough I was in the right place right time.
“It was a good strike but there was a lot of their players running at the ball and the goalkeeper was unsighted so there was a bit of luck really.
“It wasn’t so much a good goal but it was an important goal.”
Olivier Kapo’s 79th minute equaliser set up a tense finale but Carsley believes a sense of justice prevailed in the end.
He added: “A draw would have been a bad result. We more than deserved to win the game and we dominated similar to what we did at Derby.
“It is the first time we have won four on the bounce for a while and it shows we are really going in the right direction.”
