Everton announce Club record turnover for last season.

Record Turnover Announced

Everton chief executive Robert Elstone has announced a Club record turnover of almost £80m for the 2008/09 season.

The figure, which is unaudited, is up 5.3% from 2007/08 and a 55% increase on the figures announced for the previous financial year (2006/07).

The information was revealed at a forum for the Club's shareholders, held at Goodison Park on Wednesday evening.

The Blues' CEO talked attendees through the figures, while chairman Bill Kenwright and manager David Moyes were also in attendance, with the Blues boss taking questions from shareholders.

Mr Elstone explained that a number of key factors contributed to the record figure.

Revenue from live TV appearances ensured broadcast income increased, with Everton matches shown live on 17 occasions last term.

The Club's record deal with Chang which began last season also contributed to the success, along with last season's run to the FA Cup final boosted the coffers, with income from cup competitions up to £7.5m from £6.8m in 2007/08.

Overall, commercial income was up to £7.4m from £6.7m. Matchday income remained stable at slightly over £17m.

The figures combined totalled £79.7m compared to £75.7m 12 months earlier. These figures will now be audited and with a full statement of accounts issued in the autumn.

The chief executive's presentation also revealed that Everton are 'punching above their weight' at the top end of the Premier League table, based on their comparatively low wage bill.

Last season's wage bill was £49m, up slightly from the figure of £44.5m in 2007/08, representing 62% of the total turnover.

The Toffees have a net spend of £37.5m over the last three years, with debt increasing by £16m over that period.

colm Hudsonits a woring fact that our debt is increasing, what happens if we've a few bad season's 8-10th.money will be down and debt's up.no money for transfers.what we need is investors to survive this league.its gona turn into a billionaire's monopoly sadly!!

Paul WyattAgree with lack of comment re debt. We will not get through a season without at least another 8 players added to the squad. Lets not forget Jo was with us at the end of last season so he is not an addition, Jgs, Yak & Artetta will not be fit until into the season, so the Europa League worrie me. The kids (Rodwell aside) are not good enough (yet) to carry us throgh

matt jones62% of a buisnesses annual turnover spent on wages. it's just aswell that this particular buisness has the support of the most loyal and greatest fans in world football. COYB. just goes to show that we need davey's magic transfer miracles now more than ever. and what a chairman blue bill is. the pressure that man must be under beggers belief. makes me so proud to support this awesome club. we may not have welthy arabs, russians or yanks but what we do have is passion. build from the ground up. bring the youngsters on. we don't need a quick fix on the field. we need more players like the ones we already have. lads that are proud to wear the royal blue and white.

Philip TaylorTurnover isn't profit. In fact as Terry Doyle pointed out they've hidden the words 'debt increasing' in the middle of that article so I'd like to know where the hell the writer of the anonymous first comment thinks all the new signings are coming from?!

Steve McClellandA fantastic result, and this without the full impact of Everton's One and Two megastores adding to our turnover. Well done to Robert Elstone, he has proved, just like David Moyes has, that we have the best young talent both on and off the field.

brennan finneganI was wondering was John Connolly, who writes about the problems of swine flu effecting players the same person who made a pigs ear out of defenders for Everton during the eighties and is my favourite player of all time?

john connolly"Nancy have called off their pre-season trip to England because of fears over swine flu. " The success of the 2009/10 season will depend on how well we prepare and manage the swine flu virus. Which is bound to effect players and whole clubs throughout this Winter.
