Ready For Goodison Debut

Ready For Goodison Debut

Landon Donovan says it would be a dream come true to get his Goodison debut against Manchester City on Saturday.

Having already made his first appearance in a Blue shirt in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal, the American can't wait for his first taste of football on Merseyside.

"I am very excited about playing at Goodison," Donovan told evertonTV in an exclusive interview.  "I am hoping I get my home debut this weekend.  Sitting in the stands at the Carlisle game made me want to play.

"Seeing how the fans respond and seeing their passion, I loved that!  Obviously you play for yourself but you also want to play for them and show them something," he continued.

"It is a big game against City and they are a team that are playing very well but we are playing well too so it will be an exciting match."

Man City Strap

The on loan LA Galaxy star played 68 minutes at the Emirates and his corner set up Leon Osman for the Blues’ opening goal.

But Donovan was disappointed his fitness meant he couldn't play the full match.

"The pace of the Premier League wasn't easy but it is nothing I haven't done before," he explained.  "I found it enjoyable as I like to be challenged and for the 70 minutes I was on the field I was constantly challenged.

"I only wish I was more fit so I could have played the full 90 minutes because when I play a full game I am more effective," continued Donovan.

"I think I could have worn them down a little more but hopefully this weekend we will be able to do that against Manchester City."

The American record goalscorer was thrilled by the the reception he received at the Emirates from the 4000 travelling Evertonians.

Donovan said he was boosted by the chants of ‘USA’ coming from the Blues supporters as he took Everton's corners.

"It was awesome!  From day one everyone has been very welcoming," he said.  "When you have that support it certainly helps you on the field so I look forward to playing at Goodison."

John ByrneWas very impressed with Landon against Arsenal and lets hope he keeps it up against City. I'm hoping he does so well that he'll want to stay longer than the 3 months but he's just signed a new 4 year deal with LA Galaxy so I've got to may question his ambition, this maybe his last chance to play in a top european league.

Soccer LAI think Claudio Reyna assessed Donovan the best in the interview recently posted. Donovan is at his best when tracking back, and then when a defender or mid springs him with a through ball into open space. He is so quick to the end of the pass and causes the defense to scramble... if Saha or Cahill find open space they will receive a nifty pass. I saw Neville figuring this out and spring the Don a few times. I think Neville and Donovan will form a nice relationship on the right.

Stewart LoweAre we going to see many more deput's i wonder? News around the net is that Neill is of to Turkey? Isnt that a bit risky when any of the injured could have setbacks? Typical to see Liverpool have got a class player in Maxi Rodriguez on a free. Might we be getting anyone? Just heard on tv that Alex Ferguson will definately quit within next two years, so the board had better impress the hell out of Moyes for him not to take that job.

DAVE HUNTERJason (Sorry! Landon, wrong country) should be given a start against City, but we need a bit of height in the box if he is playing on the wing, need Felaini and Cahill to keep up with him but not leave gaps in the middle. Really looking forward to this game.

Tim Peters3 things i noticed- 1) does Saha appear to be out of position sometimes ? He seems to be frustrating Cahill at times 2) The Don took the corner from the right that led to the first goal, then later on he was taking corners from the left. so is he taking all the corners now ? 3) Phil Neville is as solid a right back as any in the EPL. Why won't Capello consider him ?

Tim PetersI was all excitied to face our English cousins on June 12th, until my favourite player goes to my club side-that beats all the world cup mojo. so in the meantime, instead of red, white and blue, it's all about blue, blue and blue. Moyes isn't the only one frustrated, i'm sure many fans feel the same. There were times when Cahill with Donovan trailing were wide open and we didn't punish Arsenal for that. It's like passing by and not picking up a piece of gold from the floor ! That scoreline at Arsenal should have been 2-0 in our favour, we all know that, just unlucky. Man City is going to have to switch the ball around the midfield or to their right, because on the left, Donovan and Neville are going to shut them down, just like with Arsenal.

Paul HowellsI think Landon should be nailed on for a start on Saturday, he played really well against Arsenal so there is no reason to drop him. Wether he will play up front or on the right again I'mnot sure but I think the type of player he is means he will give 100% and always be a threat where ever he plays

David MorganDonovan is a forward? I hope we go 4-4-2 against City and attack! maybe bring Billy off the bench and play Cahill MC instead of Osman. Switch Pienaar to the right, but i get the feeling its going to be 4-5-1 again. We have got to get at Lescott!!! 4-4-2 give him SAHA & DONOVAN to worry about!
