PREMIER LEAGUE SCHOOL WINNERS

Everton's under 13 girls have won the Premier League Schools Tournament.

PREMIER LEAGUE SCHOOL WINNERS

Everton won a major football tournament at the weekend…the under 13s girls Premier League Schools Tournament.

The Blues, represented by Broughton Hall High School from West Derby, overcame Liverpool 2-0 in the final at the Madjeski Stadium.

In a fiercely contested Merseyside derby, Everton ran out deserved winners in the six-a-side competition.

Over 5,000 youngsters and 600 schools took part in the annual tournament which culminated in the finals day at the home of the Royals.

It was a day to remember for the girls as they went through a full Premier League match day experience including using the first team dressing rooms and having matches officiated by top flight referees Steve Bennett and Keith Stroud.

Everton’s women and girls coach Andy Spence hailed the girls’ achievement.

“The team have done fantastically well and are a credit to Everton,” he said.

“The girls played some great football throughout the tournament and ran out deserved winners.”

The young players received sports equipment along with trophies and medals from Premier League Chief Executive Richard Scudamore.

He commented: “The Schools Tournament offers them a fantastic opportunity to experience what it would be like to be a top player on a match day.

“All of our clubs do a huge amount of unsung work in their communities and this is just part of it. I am thrilled that we have been able to involve over five thousand boys and girls right across the country in the Premier League Schools Tournament.”
