Ossie Wants 2005 Repeat
Leon Osman says fans can spur Everton to victory over Manchester United.
Leon Osman hopes Saturday's clash with Manchester United can produce a repeat of Everton's magnificent 1-0 triumph in 2005.
It was the first time Everton had beaten Sir Alex Ferguson's side in a decade and, with the Blues having failed to record victory over them since, it's a day Osman remembers with pride.
Victory came courtesy of a splendid diving header from Duncan Ferguson - but academy product Osman says the Goodison faithful played a pivotal role that day.
“The thing I remember above all is the atmosphere,” Osman recalled. “It was absolutely incredible and from the first whistle you could tell everyone was behind us. They pushed us on and gave us belief. We didn’t do anything to get them going - they were just up for it from the start.
“We don’t feel like we are on a hiding to nothing. It’s another game, it’s Manchester United at home and if you don’t want to be involved in a fixture like this then there is something wrong with you. These are the games you want to play in.
“They are great occasions when you play the top sides at Goodison but they are even better if you win and we have got to make sure we do that. We will be giving it our all and I’m sure the crowd will do the same as well.”
Make sure Ossie and the lads get your support again this time around.
The game is not being shown live on television in the UK so Goodison Park is the only place to see all of the action!
Tickets for the match are now on general sale.
