Ossie: Fifth Is Possible
Leon Osman believes Everton can still clinch fifth spot from Aston Villa.
Leon Osman wants a hard fight from Everton to clinch fifth spot from Aston Villa.
As Saturday's goalless draw with Tottenham guaranteed the Toffees at least a sixth place finish in the Barclays Premier League, the midfielder revealed there is now a greater hunger from his team-mates to finish ahead of Martin O’Neill’s side.
"It's been a long season", Osman told evertonTV. "We didn't start it too well but, come the end with two games to go we're guaranteed sixth place. We're not finished yet - we want to try and finish fifth, which is possible, so we'll be trying our best in these last two games.”
This weekend's clash sees West Ham visit Goodison on Saturday. Gianfranco Zola’s side have made a steady climb up the league table in the second half of their campaign, and are now fighting hard to snatch the last available spot in the Europa league.
But despite placing his main focus on taking fifth spot away from Villa, Osman admitted he has been keeping a close eye on the teams battling for that seventh-place finish.
"We've been keeping a note on most people's progress", added Osman. "Most teams have been picking up points of late and trying to get as close as they can to Aston Villa.
"But we've managed to keep picking up points ourselves and keeping them away. It’s good from us that we're still able to finish in fifth place, and West Ham are amongst a number of teams who can achieve a European place as well.
"They'll certainly be coming up desperate to take the three points. I'm sure they are determined to nick that last European space, so I'm sure it will be a tough game.”
The Hammers' visit to Goodison will be Everton's final game of the season on home soil, and Ossie has great hopes in the Everton faithful to make Saturday's showdown an electrifying end to their Goodison campaign.
"They'll be really up for the game so we're going to have to make sure we match them in all departments and hopefully we can win on the day,” he said.
"We hope that the fans turn up - as they always do. It always helps if the weather is nice! And, hopefully, if they make as much noise as they usually do, that will get the boys up and everyone going and hopefully it will mean we've got enough to win it."

Paul MoneyI'm Proud of the team this season too. with the loss of Yak, vaughan and Nuno early on in the season and then Arteta, Anichebi and Jags towards the end, the spirit and determination in the team has been magnificent. The disapointment of the early exit from europe and poor league form at the start of the season could have crushed some teams," NOT the toffee's though " we have gone from strength to strength, FA cup Final on the horizon ( Beating premiership teams in every round ), possible 5th place finish and the young lads who have come into the team and performed. " I wear my shirt with pride". BRING IT ON CHELSKI !!!!. COYB !!!!

Jack Davies5th is easily possible for us this year. this season must be the best one we've had since 87. as long as we keep up our incredible form despite all the injuries, 5th is in our sights. Moyes has really proved himself to be our best manager since howard kendall. afterall, he's got us to the final, and qualified us for uefa. he's got to b manager of the season, what with the amount of money he's had to work with and all our injuries, if any other team had got the injuries we've had this season, they would be down in the bottom half, fighting against relegation, not us though. COYB!!!!!!!!!!

Charlie Sharplesif any team had the major injuries that we had they would have done badly E.G. Gerrard and torres if they where out for most of the season liverpool would struggle to get into europe. But we have played as a team not like reds who are a two man team. They just relie on torres and gerrard its the opposite for us. Aston villa have just been lucky all season getting lucky deflections

Alex WeatherbyGreat season considering all the injuries. Next season we'll have: yakubu, arteta, anichebe and jagielka back. If we buy castillo, joau moutinho, steven taylor (from newcastle) and either jo, ebanks-blake, vagner love or bemt then i reckon we will have a great chance of breaking into the top 4

clinton davids5th should be guarenteed and not a possibility. We should want it more and take it game by game.I know players are thinking of the fa cup but 5th place is an achievment. We need to be the best of the rest and break the dominance of the top 4 next season.

david brownAnd this with our shocking start to the season. If we can avoid that next season and add a couple of quality players, this time next year we might be talking about the champions league.

Aaron DolanI think we have a good chance of finishing 5th as Villa's form has gone right out the window, they have been playing poor the last while it's time to kick on and finish strong in the remaining games.

Paul Ellami think villa will get 4 points from their last 2 games so obviously we will have to win both ours to finish above them. however, if they do slip up - we have a better goal difference so that may yet play a part. whichever way it goes, im really chuffed at how weve done this season with such bad injuries and with a hopefully fit squad next season it will be top 4 we break, not just top 6. well done everyone!!

Alex SutliffWe should already be in 5th, some disappointing results following Villa dropping points recently hasn't helped. If the pressure is there and the points are taken at home this weekend Villa could struggle in a tough scrap away at boro but then again I can't see them losing!!

john connollyIf Ozzy plays as well as he did against Wigan in the next three games I will be more than happy. Pienaar cannot do it alone. We need to be a threat from the right side too.
