NEV'S PENALTY REGRET

NEV'S PENALTY REGRET

Phil Neville has just one regret following Everton's superb season.

He wishes he had stepped up to take a penalty in the shootout against Fiorentina.

Neville, never one to shy from a challenge, believes it was his duty to volunteer - citing his European experience as a prime reason.

Reflecting on the season, Neville told evertonTV: "The game in Nurnberg stands out, as does the game against Fiorentina at home. But perhaps the biggest disappointment is that I didn’t get to take a penalty in the game against Fiorentina.

"I looks back now and I think that someone with my experience should have."

Nevertheless, Neville explained that there was plenty of progression.

Neville added: "There’s been loads of positives and the important thing is that we have improved on last year in finishing fifth.

"There's is obviously still a gap between us and the top four, but we are looking to bridge that gap.

"Other teams have spent more money than us and other teams have said that they will be doing this and that, but it’s us that have done it and it’s a fantastic achievement."

Micky YusufWe lost the march to fatigue, un usual rains and a bout of hard luck... though they scored their first goal late in the second half, we were unlucky to concede the second goal from the same spot! I know that match and several others played afterwards, have toughned us for the big challenges of next season and the glorious feats we are poised to achieve!! Amen Amen.......

John CoadyNo worries Phil. We lost that tie in the away game by giving them too much respect. We were always gonna beat them at home and should have wrapped it up in regular time. Its a lesson well learned mate. We wont make that mistake again. Onward and upward Blueboys.

Mark ReidLast week Phil - you said you wanted to score 5 goals a season and you were disappointed with this seasons tally. I want to hear that: at the end of training every day this coming season - your shooting/drilling 30-40 shots from inside/outside the box. I also want you to really go for the 5 goal objective next season. Like Carsley - you get into shooting positions in the game cutting in from the right, so why not? Ask the bookies - or football statisticians - any top team or winning result is usually governed by chances on goal. More shots from you - and others on goal - challenging the oppo's keeper will win us more games. Reckon you and AJ should both do the 30-40 shots on goal extra practice. For AJ's confidence and because he's playing more like a forward now and since you both get in useful positions to shoot regularly in games.

Bertie Welshwith all due respect nev, you're not the best penalty taker in the world. you're qualities lie elsewhere on the pitch, even though the goal against villa was pretty damn good.

Chris MurtaghYou scored two goals this season Phil; don't worry about it, we were just unlucky. I wonder if Moyes took notes on Arshavin last night....

Desmond NgCaptain, remember we don't any chance to practise penalty. The match officials awarded us only one penalty throughout the season. In the last ten minutes of this superb season.

Peter MooreCaptain Phil Neville should have no regrets: Jags and the Yak are also top class players who were unlucky not to score on the night. I'd stick my mortgage on the Yak to score everytime and few can strike a ball better than Jags, he was just unlucky the keeper pulled off a great save. Stick to doing a great job at Right Back Nev, there is plenty of goal scoring talent elsewhere. Great Captain's goal against Villa though, get in there!
