Moyes On Transfers

David Moyes has reiterated his determination to boost Everton's squad this summer.

The Toffees are yet to enter the transfer market this term, with the manager acutely aware that new signings take time to bed in.

Moyes was speaking after his side defeated Colorado Rapids 2-1 in the second leg of their USA tour.

“It’s been a good tour but the one disappointment is that I don’t have some more people here with me,” said Moyes. “I was hoping to have added to the squad by now and brought a few in to give the players a lift.

“It’s not just a new face we need - it’s new faces. My big concern is that anybody we bring in now probably won’t be ready to start the Premier League season. It’s now getting to the stage where you are wondering how long it takes for new players to settle, etc."

The Goodison chief is trying to remain positive as the new campaign approaches.

“I’m hoping we will have some in (before the start of the season)," he continued. "But I’m not going to turn around and say I am totally confident because you never know what happens. But, yes, I am hoping that we will end up getting a few in.”

Everton's performance against the Rapids represented a marked improvement on the Toffees' previous American friendly.

“We were better than we were in Chicago,” said Moyes. “We enjoyed getting the result and I thought the performance was an improvement. I think we needed it. In the opening 15 minutes, we played really well but the longer it went, Colorado got into it.

“It was nice to see Mikel and Ossie score - he should have had one before he got the winner - and we are going to need them to do that for us. We are going to need goals from the middle of the park as always.”

daniel gravesI agree with Stewart Lowe. I think if we can Smith to have the same confidence he had at Leeds then he could do very well in a blue shirt. Another holding midfielder and a forward are probably needed to progress

Cameron BushI agree with Micheal Lee. we need to sign top players to challage the top 4. we need players like mountinho he is a promising youngster. if we sign good players but only a few in about 3 seasons we will have a very good squad, we already have some good players like lescott, arteta, cahill, jagielca, yakubu e.c.t but we need some very good players that can score goals! sign mountinho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael LeeNo point signing players just for the sake of it... we have to get the right players to take the next step. Moyes has commited for the long term but knows it will take another few seasons of improvement to make the top 4...! He now needs to sign top quality players but the problem is if they get an offer from a champs lgue team . I think Sidwell is overrated and not a lost oppertunity as some think.

Stewart LoweI disagree with Ryan about Alan Smith. He isnt scoring at Newcastle because he is being played as a striker, which he is not. If we got Smith and Played him as a holding mildfielder that would be allowed to push up as a forward when that extra Striker is required, then he would be a great acquisition. For me Smith has looked lost ever since his injury, but i think Moyes could instill that confidence that a stable team can bread.

Ryan EdwardsI think we missed out on pablo Aimar and Steve Sidwell but i think we can still get Micheal Johnson (8 million) and Mourtinho (14 million). With the money we still have left we should get Jason Koumas (Creative Welsh international) and Ryan Taylor (Creative local) together for about 4.5million. I dont think we should get Smith (because of terrible scoring record in last two season). But i think we shopuld go back to 4-5-1 formation with cahill supporting striker. So if we get another creative midfielder or Carsley role midfield that would be great!!!!!

Stewart LoweFor me its the 4 following players: 1) Jao Moutinho (14m) 2) Dean Ashton (18m) 3) Jimmy Bullard (4m) 4) Alan Smith (3m) Total: 39m Minus Johnsons 8M = 31m. Any comments?

Nikita RawlinsonIf Everton are going to be challenging for fourth spot this season, then we need new faces on the team, David Moyes has done a fantastic job with the players we have, and yes we are performing good, but unfortunately not good enough for fourth. We need a midfielder as i feel this is are weakest point, whats going to happen when Cahill and Arteta are out????

Clive HearnWe need to sign a strong midfielder for sure & a 20 goal striker. Problem is not David Moyes, he is proven but look at the other top 10 teams & their purchases. What if we were to finish 10th this season...who would we attract next season ?? COYB !!

anthony mckenziewe have done well over the past couple of seasons an that has been down to david moyes. simple as. without major an investment or transfer funds all that will count for nothing. yes we have qualified for europe but we havent won anything since 1995 an honestly without the proper backing we wont be winning anything again this year. come on the give the man the financial backing to have a go at the so called "TOP FOUR". Come on you blues

Ryan Edwardsi have to disagree with all of the comments that have been put forward- i think it is disgraceful that we have had all SUMMER to sign someone and we havent done a single thing except from a lousy bid for mortinho. I thought we should have got Aimar for a bargained price of 8 million but we lost out on that and i thought we should have got Sidwell and Micheal Johnson before they signed for the other europe contenders. I have been patient over the summer but we are coming to an end and we have done hardly anything!!!

Steven KotasMust so frustrating for Moyes this close season, he wants to sign players, yet it takes time to do so, we need to sign that playmaker for midfield, we need the midfield general that we have missed since peter reid left, and we need a prolific goalscorer, alan smith? why not at around 1.5mil he would be a bargain

Richard PeaceI would have thought the Everton board would have been moving mountains to give David the cash he needs to bring in excellent players. Excellent players are the ones that Everton will attract because of the excellent job that he has done in his 6 years. Come on, support him!!!!!!

Stewart LoweI have nothing but honest admiration for Mr Moyes and Mr Kenwright. It must be one of the worst feelings taking flack from supporters frustrated by no transfers, despite their interests being at best heart.
