David Moyes remains hopeful Everton will secure the signing of Landon Donovan.
The Blues this week confirmed that they were in talks with the LA Galaxy forward with a view to a loan signing beginning in January.
Moyes was asked about Donovan in his Friday press conference and said negotiations were ongoing and that his reasons for recruiting the player would be revealed if and when the transfer is complete.
“I can't tell you too much just now because we are just finalising things," said Moyes.
"But I think that will probably happen in a couple of weeks.
"I would rather wait until it's done. Maybe in a couple of weeks we will be able to tell you a little bit more."
Donovan, 27, holds the USA caps and goalscoring records and has appeared in two World Cups. Earlier in 2009 he had a loan spell at Bayern Munich before heading back to the Galaxy.
