The People's Club
David Moyes addresses the room at the inaugral Shareholders' Forum

Moyes: No Players Leaving

by Matthew Gamble | Wednesday 15 July 2009, 21:54

Everton manager David Moyes has again reiterated that none of his players will be leaving Goodison Park this summer.

Speaking at a forum for the Club’s shareholders, Moyes said players would only leave Everton on his say-so, referring to comments he made at the end of last season.

And as part of the forum the manager was asked about speculation linking Manchester City with the signing of Joleon Lescott.

He replied: “I said there will be no players sold at Everton and I don’t feel I need to say any more. The board have never sold a player from me – it will only be at my discretion. I said it at the end of the season and I don’t need to say any more.”

The manager also revealed that he may well target talented young players as part of his strategy of improving the Club on all levels.

He also explained that he was all too aware of the impact European football will have on his squad next term.

“We will be bringing in people and maybe not people who I would think are first team players; maybe squad players, Bosmans to build up the squad to cope with things like that (Europe)," said Moyes.

“Often in Europe, when you come back after the mid-week game it is that game where you can struggle,” he continued. “We need more than 12 or 13 players at that level.”

can't believe some people on here are wanting lescott to go! he's my best player. were not going to get a better defender to replace him jagielka is still out injured so theres only yobo. how are we ment to go up another level if you's are wanting are best players to go. Lescott needs to speak up for himself & say whether he wants to go or not & actually let us know whether he wants to play for us or not in my eyes it looks like he wants to go money talks at the end of the day. but i won't be singing his praises if he goes. they havent won anything since 1974. i dont want to see him go but at the end of the day if he doesnt want to play for us then theres the door noones bigger than the club!

I had a typo in my last comment. We should NOT, repeat NOT sell Lescott. Mark Hughes and co just don't know when NO means NO. Jjust look how much they listened to Chelsea and I think they have shown a total disrespect for Moyes.

We should sell Lescott at all as we need our best defenders as Jags is injured and Yobo wobbles. Mark Hughes is like a kid in a sweet shop with money to burn. He doesn't have a clue and will spend on anything. He did not do so well last season with a load of expensive players and he will do no better next year. He not as good a manager as Moyes. However, he is trying to get Lescott on the cheap - £35m is more like it. .

If lescott went now moyes will be made to look stupid after these statement, then again he said rooney was going nowhere. What they'll end up doing is making him put a transfer request in like they did with shrek, now come on we can't have kenwright looking bad can we.

I respect your point of view Nicholas, why not indeed? But I think you do a disservice to Bill Kenwright with your second remark, IMHO. I think Bill, and any owner for that matter, wants to succeed. At face value, Bill is very open & honest about our clubs finances and I believe him when he tells it like it is. The Man City owners throw lots of money at the team & yes, they want success, but if they don't get it, you watch that money disappear! City is a trophy to them, Everton is a passion to Bill & the rest of us. I would respect Joleons decision if he wanted to be a part of it, but hopefully, for their supporters, I hope they don't become the next Leeds Utd! Cheers. :o)

Money talks and if the sum is right why not go for it? Granted Lescott has been impressive for the toffies but Yobo and Phil are still there, Alan Hutton won't be a bad adddition. Moyes could then afford to look at the likes of Mexes, Verosa or Mutinho. Everton has a variety of utility players who can get the job done for them so at 20m I would say go for it. I'm a utd but i enjoy watching Everton and when they aquired Pienaare my intrest peeked even more. In all reality a team can only punch above its weight for so long and i do empathis with the fact that Everton needs a big investor, but constantly finnishing as nearly men will bare consequences such as this. For all the improving the like of Everton make the big boys are doing the same meaning the gap pretty much remains the same and they sad truth is that it's usually at the smaller clubs expence. An arsenal could come knocking for Jags and he'd be foolish not to accept it meaning its two step forward and 5 back for Everton. I think a bit more ambition is need in the market, if for anything else to reassure players that progress forward is being made

No..... they won't need Joleon.... they have 10 strikers and will be too busy scoring goals all season. And, someone used a winger as right back last season and that wasn't a bad idea.

I can't believe the negativity in some of the comments here! Huge Investment doesn't always bring success, look at Manchester city last season, all that money and nothing. Mark Hughes is like a kid in sweet shop, and all's he is doing is putting together is a mish-mash of players. who, if given last seasons efforts, will not bond as a team and hence will be a mediocre team, and maybe not even that good. Another Example, Liverpool, Look at how the owners there are running them into the ground. Money does play a part in running a team, but a lot depends on the knowledge and skill of the manager and his backroom team in being able to source out talented players, and yes, quite often for free or for small transfer fees, something that Everton are masters at. Anyone who leaves a comment on here should be full of praise for everyone concerned with the team including the fans and the chairman, as any lesser team may have ended up in a lower division. Think you can do better? I doubt it! For all the genuine fans and the Everton Team, here's to another great season and some silverware, BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!
