Moyes Names Starting XI

The Everton manager reveals his starting line up to face BATE Borisov.

Moyes Names Starting XI

David Moyes has revealed a youthful starting eleven to face Borisov, more than 24 hours before kick off at Goodison.

In total, five players make full debuts, as Carlo Nash gets his first senior start since join the Blues in the summer of 2008 replacing Tim Howard.

Shane Duffy, Kieran Agard, Adam Forshaw and Jake Bidwell also make the starting line up for the first time.

The Everton manager has made nine changes from the side that drew 3-3 with Chelsea on Saturday.

But Moyes is keen to stress he is still taking the Europa League seriously.

"I have a lot of respect for the competition but obviously I have changed the team for the Borisov match," explained the manager to evertonfc.com.

"It was a game we had to win then we would obviously play a different line up but we have already qualified for the final 32 and we can't get any higher in the group.

"We have a very busy Christmas coming up and I still don't have many available to me so I have to preserve my players."

Everton starting XI to face BATE Borisov:  Nash, Coleman, Duffy, Hibbert (c), Bidwell, Osman, Forshaw, Baxter, Rodwell, Yakubu, Agard.

Fact file on the rising stars at Everton:

39. Hope Akpan: 14.08.91 (age 18)

Hope is a central midfielder and reserve team regular. Born in Childwall but eligible for Nigeria, he’s a box-to-box type player who loves a tackle and has been on the bench for the first team this season.

33. James McCarten: 08.11.90 (age 19)

Born in Netherton, the central defender is strong in the air – he stands six foot five – and is a reserve team regular. James was academy player of the season last season and is dangerous from set pieces – either taking them or getting on the end of them.

37. Jose Baxter: 07.02.92 (age 17)

Bootle born Jose is the club’s youngest ever player after making his debut at the start of the 2008/09 season. An attacking midfielder he has been on the fringes of the first team ever since and has made several substitute appearances this season.

29. Adam Forshaw: 08.10.91 (age 18)

Liverpool born Adam has made himself a reserve team regular this season after a long-term injury. He is most at home on the right-hand side of midfield and is capable of producing excellent delivery from open play and set pieces.

43. Shkodran Mustafi: 17.04.92 (age 17)

Shkodran signed from Hamburg in the summer of 2009 and arrived with a strong reputation in Germany. Mainly a central defender he has played at full back for the reserves this season and has made the first team bench on a couple of occasions.

36. Jake Bidwell: 21.03.93 (age 16)

Jake has England under-16 and under-17 honours and is a powerfully-built left-sided player, usually operating at left-back. Forcing his way into the reserve setup. he already has a Goodison Park goal under his belt after scoring in the FA Youth Cup win over Nantwich last season.

32. Luke Garbutt: 21.05.93 (age 16)

Signed from Leeds in the summer for an initial fee of £600,000 (which could raise by £950,000 based on performance), Luke has England Under-16 and 17 honours but has only made a couple of reserve team appearances this term, as well as featuring for Everton’s Under-18s.

34. Shane Duffy: 01.01.92 (age 17)

Tall central defender Shane arrived from Northern Ireland in July 2008 and progressed through the Under-18s to the reserve side. He has been on the fringes of the first team squad this season, making an 80th-minute substitute appearance in Athens. Has played at every age group level for his country and has also been named in the senior squad, without actually appearing.

Go and enjoy the match tonight, at leats you are going, I'll have to watch on tv .... think you might be surprised, I watched Bidwell ( excellent against Berband mendy, Hope, Duffy and few of the others playing for the reserves against Hull in Sept who had 8 of the first team squad playing ... only surprising thing was Stubbsy was in chrge in 2nd half and he was quiet !!!

Thursday 17th December 16:58 Report Comment

Mark Lynchhave to say Alex Mason, and Brendan Grogan wind your necks in. its not a reserve game its a 1st team game, all prem clubs do it these days (play reserve players) comments like your could have a negative effect on these young players, appreciate Moyes thinks they can provide us with a result so lets embrace the fact that they are being given a chance to shine, who knows they may impress so much and get a regualr run of games. will they still be reserves then!!! i think not, how are these players meant to get established if the likes of you kick them before they start?? think about it Guys, well said Dave hunter, Delian Jones and Dan Nally, imwt

Thursday 17th December 16:37 Report Comment

Richard PennI'm pleased to be in a situation where we CAN rest some of the first choice first team squad. I think it's a great opportunity for the younger players to prove to everyone that they wear the famous blue shirt with pride and commitment. I will be watching with great anticipation. COYB

James WilkinsonCongrats to the youngsters and hopefully they will shine for everton and pick up the win, however, priority is definetly brum on the weekend, that is a vital game for the context of our domestic season, we need 3 pts on the weekend, however, it would be nice to see Yak on the scoresheet again, we need him firing sooner rather than later, and hopefully ossie gets a good run out 2nite. Kyle EvansHow can people complain about the selection, Knowing how bad our luck is with injuries. We have such a small squad that i think our first team thoroughly deserve a good rest. As well as all that. This is a brilliant oppurtunity to see what were going to look like in years to come. Good Luck Lads. COYB

Thursday 17th December 13:49 Report Comment

Mark ReidDan Nally. You're very right. Brenden doesn't understand. Unlike Everton, have Arsenal ever lowered prices when they play their youth players in the side? No they charge £50 on average for all games. EFC at least apply some common sense and half of those complaining don't follow the reserves/youth sides, because they don't realise the 1st team is based on them and players coming through. £25.00 is good value. And the european experience for the youth team is priceless and I'm willing to pay it to see Everton more competitive via our youth development policies! NSNO

Thursday 17th December 13:39 Report Comment

Dan NallyI can't believe people are actually moaning about the ticket price and who's starting tonight, it doesn't matter who starts ANY game, you're supposed to be Everton supporters and support whoever plays in the famous blue jersey, what is wrong with people? if I lived close enough that it would cost me £20 for a train ticket then I would go to every match, reserve team or not you'll stil be cheering if we score so why are you complaining? I can't believe some of the famous toffee fans have swooped as low as Wolves fans, when logically it makes sense to play a reserve side for a match we can't go any higher in the group stage, he's resting players for a much needed win on Sunday, which I'm assuming if we win that then people like Brendan Grogan will be saying 'That was a good decision last week Moyesy for resting the first team'. Sort it out. COYB. I can't wait to see Baxter and Coleman on the right flank, they looked good together against AEK!

Thursday 17th December 13:19 Report Comment

Mick EganSo glad first team players can be rested, and I am lookin forward to seeing the youngsters tonight. However, Everton should have reduced ticket prices, as am sure it would of drawn a bigger crowd, giving the youngsters a much better experience!! Good luck tonight lads, go out and just enjoy the occasion....COYB!!

Phil LivingstoneGood luck to all those young lads playing tonight! It will be the best experience of their lives, so far....playing under the lights at Goodison in the first team & a European game too! Hope they do themselves proud, put on a good show and we see some stars of the future for this club!

Thursday 17th December 13:13 Report Comment

Delian JonesWe all know the starting 11, but who will be on the bench???? Personally I hope it's a few more of the youngsters, as it is to the clubs credit to see just how many local boys will get a game tonight!

Thursday 17th December 13:10 Report Comment

brendan groganno when you pay first team prices you expect to see the first team not the reserves or the youth team

Thursday 17th December 12:53 Report Comment

Stuart StylesMakes total sense to play a team mixed with youth and experience. If they take their chance it gives Moyes the option to play some of them again against Carlisle, knowing that they can do the job - look how well coleman did against Spurs.

Thursday 17th December 12:44 Report Comment

Joe Murphy@Brendan Grogan match ticket 25 pounds, train ticket 20 pounds, hotel room 18 pounds.....Watching the team we love play in Europe, no matter who is wearing the royal blue jersey simply because we are born and not manufactured and EFC is in our hearts and in our souls..... PRICELESS Stop whining, enjoy the game lad

Thursday 17th December 12:30 Report Comment

chris skillicornBrendan Grogan can I ask you a question, what would you rather do put your already ailing side at risk for a game that means nothing or rest them ready for the very busy and important Christmas period. We are only a couple of losses off relegation , if we were to pick up another injury where would that leave us? We picked up 3 injuries in the last euro game! I understand that you may be annoyed but did you really expect anything else?

Thursday 17th December 12:04 Report Comment

peter lappinSupport DM's selection ( we would all have slightly different views about starting line up ) BUT who will be on the bench. Would hope that we would have some regulars to come on, if necessary - still need to have a decent performance/result.

Phil LivingstoneNice one for giving the supporters a heads-up Moysey and announcing the team in advance (Unlike Mick McCarthy did against United this week)!! Sensible to give the kids a run out bearing in mind the result of the game is inconsequential. Hopefully we'll see a few bright performances by future stars. I'm looking forward to it.....COYB (good news about the possibility of Donovan pitching up at Goodison for a couple of months too - he'll be a welcome addition to help us through until March).

Thursday 17th December 09:55 Report Comment

John HauI think we did go with a similar formation to the Chelsea, possibly a 4-3-3? Start with a flat four in the back starting with Coleman, Hibbert, Duffy & Bidwell. Osman and Forsaw in the CM with Rodwell playing just behind them as a DM, similar to what Carsley used to do for us. Yakubu right upfront with Agard and Baxter playing behind him on either side. Basically is going to be something very similar to what Chelsea like to play most of the time. Everyone must be thinking this experiment is going to fail, but I think we are in for a surprise!

Thursday 17th December 09:39 Report Comment

alexis leungWell, we can play any body for this one but I am sure the young boys will do good. The important thing is that we need to win many many league matches starting this Sunday ! I notice that recently people stopped mentioning us as top 6/Europe contenders ! Isn't that scary!

Thursday 17th December 09:27 Report Comment

Cason TangIs Baxter playing midfielder or upfront? If you look at this line-up, we have 3 forwards in Yak, Agard and Baxter. That is very good. I hope Moyes is playing 4-3-3 and hopefully we can bang in goals like what we did two months ago. Go young Blues!!!
