Moyes Drops Lescott for Sigma

David Moyes reveals Joleon Lescott will not figure against Sigma.

Moyes Drops Lescott for Sigma

David Moyes has dropped Joleon Lescott from his squad for Thursday night's Europa League clash with Sigma Olomouc.

The manager has revealed he will not include Lescott in his plans for the first leg play-off tie because he has been disappointed by Lescott's attitude following the defeat to Arsenal.

Lescott did not train with the first team on Wednesday as the manager prepared his side to face the Czech outfit.

He told the pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon: “We think he is a really good player. In fact I’ve always thought he’s a good lad as well

“But he hasn’t only disappointed me, he’s disappointed his team-mates. His attitude has been very poor in the last few days and for that reason alone I will not include him.

“There has been a lot talked about and a lot has been said. I think we’re doing the right thing in taking him out of the squad.”

Lescott's omission from the squad means that Joseph Yobo is the only fit and available senior central defender in the squad.

However, both Phil Neville and Jack Rodwell occupied central defensive positions in pre-season games against Coventry, Blackpool and Malaga.

Both those players are in the squad for Thursday night's match, which kicks-off at Goodison at 8pm.

andrew kirbytell man city they can have jl but not until we get who we need to buy, because if other teams know we have money from jl sale there players become higher priced, go get upson johnson from midd and taylor from newc plus take dunn and £20mill plus for jl

Neil Bullocklets sell Lescott asap, but please don't bring back Dunny if he's not good enough for city he aint good enough for our reserves...accept the £22M and ask for petrov as well, as he seems to want to leave eastlands. We've coped with losing influential players in the past such as Carsley or Johnson, so losing Jole will make no difference as Moyes will bring in players to move Everton on and improve... lets get Hutton, Wheater, aiden Mcgeady, and that ever bangera (if possible)

Philip LuxonAgree with most of the comments going around. Moyesy doing the right thing by leaving lescott out. As it can only be about money, i reckon the way forward now is to get as much as we can from siteeh for him. Need cover for bainsy, 2 c/backs wide man, quality rb and strong centre mid (nothing new there then). Would settle for a quality centre mid and a couple decent defenders. Dont understand why nev is not our r/back!. defour would have been nice. Get mikel, yak and jags on the ginsing asap

Thursday 20th August 16:46 Report Comment

Grahame PenningtonIt must be frustrating to davie moyes trying to build a good everton side when players like lescott want to jump ship for more money/greed. I understand why moyes has done what he has done, in dropping lescott. Oviously the boy doesnt want to be with us so lets get shut and move on before this saga upsets the team and the results, and let moyes as i said before use the money to bring in more players which we definatly need.

Thursday 20th August 16:30 Report Comment

Robert BurnsI totally agree with Rick! There was a kid in my school who's got lescott on his shirt! I asked 'why?' and he said 'because he's my favourite player!' He's only 7 and one of his hero's is letting the club down! So dissapointing! On a lighter note theres another 7 year old with 'Feed the Yak on his back!' Im sure the rest of the squad will stick together and start with a good result tonight!

Thursday 20th August 14:51 Report Comment

James WilkinsonIt will be sad to see lescott go, becasue he has been a good ambassador for the club except for the last month or so, but everyone has their price, so i think 22 mil and petrov or richards or onuoha will do, then spend some of it on Steven Taylor, alan Hutton (who i rate highly but injuries are crippling him, wouldnt mind bentley at the club as well for the right price, if we have any money left go for a creative midfielder, ideally it would be van der vaart or defour, but doubt we will have enough money, also could the club post updates on how Arteta, Yak and Jags are going, because i cannot wait for these 3 lads to come back especially Arteta becaue i feel he is the man who links it all together but also excited to see the other two as well. also im hearing good things about Banega, i have seen videos of this lad and he is class, he could be a cheap answer to a creative midfielder, he seems good on the ball, very skilful, a very very creative and good passer and could forge an excellent partenership with arteta which would be potent, hopefully th work permit can go through as quick as possible. Come on boys we are gettin better but it starts by selling lescott, COYB!!! want a 2-0 win against Sigma and a 2-0 or maybe 3-0 win against burnley, but saying this i will be happy with just a win.

Thursday 20th August 14:49 Report Comment

Jason GriffithsLets let him go no one is bigger then the club. We all trust in moyes and respect what moyes has tried to do with this but we can't compete with the big boys when it comes to money. Let him go, and use the money to buy 2 defenders.

Thursday 20th August 14:36 Report Comment

Dave WestonI agree with all of the recent comments regarding the Lescott saga. I think now is the time to off load him and concentrate on the positive attitude of the rest of the squad who have undoubtedly stuck together over the past few seasons. Lets get tonights game put to bed and sell and move on. I don't think Dunne is the answer even short term as we need a quality centre back who can come in and do a good job on a regular basis as we've seen with Jags injury short term is not the answer.

Thursday 20th August 13:11 Report Comment

bernie westPlease David we know you make all the decisions at EFC so get rid of lescott now. If you do keep him after the deadline it will only rear its head again in january so enough is enough. rick smithi`m so dissapointed at lescott,my son thought he was the best thing since sliced bread,as i`m sure a lot of other young toffee`s thought.it saddens me 2 think how a cult hero like lescott can turn his back on the very people that made him into the class defender he is,and hurt the fans who adored him.

Thursday 20th August 11:23 Report Comment

John CheeversI have tried very hard to give Lescott the benefit of the doubt. I have applauded the actions of the majority at Goodison where he was given a rousing reception. I have even accepted that he has the right to have lodged a written request for a transfer but enough is enough. As a "professional" footballer, you should be able to rise above petty differences with your manager. You should always maintain the team spirit & NOT be a devisive factor. You should also maintain your level of attitude & ability. Sadly, for me, if Lescott has been dropped for his poor team spirit or work ethic, then I have had enough of trying to be fair & even with him. Everton will go on long after he has gone and Everton, the TEAM Everton, will succeed or fail as a cohesive group of players, administrators, and supporters. COYB!!!

Daniel BuddaI agree DM, think we now have to accept defeat with this one. I was one of those who really wanted to hang onto Lescott, but he clearly wants to go and it told on sat'day. I wouldn't of been so public about dropping him cos now i can see manc kity coming bk with a lower offer. So dissapointed with Lescott tho, think he should of been much clearer about his intentions from the start. Lets get that money quickly and spend it wisely. Hurry up n get fit Jags. Lets start our season tonight. COYB!

Thursday 20th August 10:31 Report Comment

Jeff BeeI think DM is right to drop Lescott - if he (Lescott) doesn't realise that he owes Moyes for getting him into the England squad then off laod him now and spend the cash somewhere else. Still worried that we never seem to be an attractive club to join - why are all our transfers behind closed doors?

Thursday 20th August 10:18 Report Comment

James KiernanI might be a little biased being irish but i think dunne thrown in as part of the deal isn't bad. When he's good he's world class but when he's poor he does look dodgy, however if anyone can make him better and consistant its our Moyesiah. I think Lescott needs to go at this stage. Its a shame cos when his career is over and he has all the money he ever wanted he still wont have unwavering respect of any clubs fans like he would have had had he stayed and become a legend with us.

Simon HawkerIts time to get rid of Lescott, either let him rot in the reserves or take some of that money and a player off City i.e £20 mil and Jo. Phil HoyleAll I can say is the response from David Moyes makes me incredibly proud of him and the honour he shows to the traditions of our great club. He is obviously a man of integrity and I fully endorse his stance on this. We have said 'no' to Man City and Joleon so all parties should respect that. What Joleon needs to think about is whilst he is one of the top Premiership defenders if Man City actually achieve what they intend to (which I truly hope they do not) he will end up being a bit player as they will buy the cream of Europe which he is not. As for Mark Hughes, so disappointed in a man that played under Fergie and wore the blue shirt - I actually hope the arrogance and disrespect he has shown to our great club comes back to haunt him. On a positive note I can't wait for the game tonight. I think we will see the pride and commitment from the guys and have full confidence we will get through. Proud to be a blue!!!!!

Andrew HodgsonHello Evertonians, I trust Moyes and im sure most of us do, I like Lescott but the problem is that the season has STARTED!!! We were good last season but it wasnt because of the quality of individuals that we were that good, it was because we were a TEAM, and this Lescott saga has to end one way or another othewise its going to drag us all down: team and fans. Last week i thought great that the gaffer rejected Lescotts transfer request, but here and now im thinking get rid! After watching the game on Saturday...., there was no team spirit you could tell there was something wrong. Im sure Moyes will react rightly and make the right desision. Common Lads heads up and win 2morrow, sell Lescott, buy some quality, and lets get the season started!!! IMWT

Josh Quigleylet him go for 20 million and two of there players(petrov and dunne). Dunne can last us up untill december when we'll have a fit jagielka back. Petrov would be a welcome aswell with his speed. However these players will have 2 wont 2 leave 1st. All talk about elm its taken him 2 weeks 2 decide where he wants 2 go so maybe we haven't made an impression on him. i would be happy to see Taylor at the club. We can't sell lescott on the last day of the season as we did with rooney.

Wednesday 19th August 22:40 Report Comment

russ crooksI desperately wanted Lescott to stay - the gaffer certainly worked his magic and turned a pigs ear into a silk purse since Joleon's arrival from Wolves. But it's time to face facts - the only reason for Lescott's poor attitude is down to his desire to leave Goodison Park and, as much as I hate to admit it, nothing DM or the fans can do will change that now. DM - you've done everthing you can to keep him and I admire your stance in the media - the premier league needs managers to stand up and take responsibility for team decisions - but enough is enough now - don't allow £20 million potential investment to rot on the bench - sell him, get replacements in as soon as possible and let's all, players and fans alike who are proud to wear the shirt, move on and continue to progress towards the top four positions in the league. Bring it on Sigma.

Stewart LoweMoyes has done exactly what he should do and isolate the virus that threatens to infect our season. His next move should be to ship Lescott out to Man City and take the 20m. Remember when we all thought how Man Utd would never be the same when Ferguson showed Beckham the door because Man Utd lost their identity and became the David Beckham roadshow? And Lets also remember that Lescott is no Beckham. The reality is that average players become better players when playing within a solid working single unit of an Everton team. Average players in a team that is fractioned like Man City's remain lesser players. In my humble opinion we should take the 20m and run like the wind. This combined with the money that was available to us would probably provide funds to buy 4 or maybe even 5 quality players. Do not let the press fool you, we do have money to spend and always have done. They said that last year and then went on to buy Fellaini for nearly £16m. It's Evertons coy way of telling the footballing and money driven agent world that we are skint.

Rachel EverblueCome on let us get behing the blues and into the league stages of the Europa League. Moyes is right to drop Lescott whatever the result tomorrrow but we have to get the £25m for him now and bring in suitable replacements soon. I always say a player who wants to wear the blue of Everton is worth 10 times that somebody who does not. What I find most infuriating about this whole situation is the Mark Hughes is a man who once wore the royal blue shirt with pride but it emerges that he clearly has no respect for Bill, David or EFC. I wiuld ask for the £20m Dunne and Jo and they can have him as far as I am concerned. There are players far less talented than Joleon Lescott who have graced the royal blue with pride. Just remeber Joleon if you leave you are unlikely to get the chance to play for this magnificent club again. Beware of those who have left in the past Barmby, Speed, Hinchcliffe and Kanchelskis, the only way is down with the exception of Rooney. Only a few genuine greats have seen the light and had two bites of the blie cherry Hickson, Ferguson, Unsworth and I am sure Rooney will one day return. However Mr Lescott I am afraind that you would not be among the greats. Moyesey need players who like Phil Neville, Jagielka, Osman and Cahill to name a few of a magnificent set of lads in our squad empitomise what EFC and Davey Moyes are about. Stephen LyonI have to disagree with Peter Mulligan - Moyes isn't the only one who wants Lescott to stay, I do too and I'm sure there are other blues as well, such as the ones who cheered him on Saturday. Lescott is a quality player. I trust Moyes implicity - he's not done too bad these past 7 years has he? - and if he wants him to stay, and thinks he can stay, I back him 100%. Lescott needs to get over this and be a man about it, like Gareth Barry was at Villa last season when he was denied his move. It's 20 days since City's last bid - if they want him, where's their improved 3rd bid? All they do is talk in the media. I back Moyes. COYB!

John HauIt's the right things to drop Lescott if he is not acting the way he suppose to be, he is a Professional Footballer, not a teenage kid trying to get his parents buy him a PS3. Too, often in the football world player get a move by acting this way. We must set an example to others that dirty trick won't work everytime, he is under contract with us and it's not just any contract but an extension one that he only just agreed to last season. I believe every player would have a right time to move on or retire, and I am not doubting this opportunity, it might even be a good one for the player and Everton. Saying that I feel this transfer saga City has not been doing business in the right manner and if City has done things differently, it might have made this transfer possible but it would have to be the right price and what's best for the club. I certainly feel it is way too late for this transfer to happen, it is hard to find replacement in such a short time and what's good to have money but no where to spend it? I certainly not wanted to see a "Rooney" repeat, we are no longer a selling club and it's not as though we needed that money to buy 3~4 player, we ought to have that money anyway.

I think his reasons for going to City are obvious, who's head wouldn't be turned by the offer of trebbling wages, so I am pretty sure this means Joleon will soon be offloaded. I hope with this comes more progress, perhaps even a signing and a win tommorow night! COYB!

So get a good price for him Davey mate and lets go in for Taylor, Banega and someone else creative like Bentley. A midfield choice of Bentley, Arteta, Banega, Osman and Piennar would be something scary. With Arteta and Banega in the middle, would take quite an opposition midfield to get the ball off them. For all his rock sturdy defending in our back 4, he got swayed when Man C offered him more money. He should realise that WE are the one who has brought him for obscurity, not THEM. H/ever I always believe not to hold onto a player who has set his heart out somewhere. May David Moyes learnt this valueable lesson and not repeating it in future, I for one dunt wanna see us toppled 1-6 again.

Jack FarronI am too disappointed in his attitude and although he is a great footballer and defender, it seems he is not a great professional. Moyes would not drop one of his best players otherwise. If this does not make Joleon wake up and smell the coffee then I think it is time for us to cash in and sell!!! COYB!!!!

Wednesday 19th August 17:33 Report Comment

sean taylorwell we mite aswell sell joleon coz its pretty obvious he dont want to stay which is a shame coz hes been our rock in defence he will be missed but hey-ho we been thru these times before (rooney) we always come out fightin so lets concentrate on the new season n forget the past COYB!!!

Aaron RowlandsLike alot of people at Everton, Including yourself Moyes, I don,t want Lescott to go!, But now I just feel we should sell him!!!!!, Whats the point in keeping a player who does not want to play for the club!, You did your best in trying to keep him Moyes!, But now its best to sell Joleon!!!, Lets give him his transfer and move on!!!, All this saga and unsettling of Joleon is not good for the club as a whole!!, SELL HIM NOW!, And be done with it!!, In Moyes I trust!

Lawrence Cavillthat's a real shame Lescott. We had the faith in you and now you're in the England squad you are showing none back. Go to city if you want, we'll take the money now. cheers.

Matthew RichardsAbsolutly the right descision, I am a Lescott fan I think he has been great for this club but he has let himself down with the way he has conducted himself during this transfer speculation... I also agree that if he is showing the right attitude he should be dropped, I am glad that David Moyes is making a Stand against this type of thing, Lescott was only too happy to sign a renewed contract we should make him honour it!

Wednesday 19th August 17:21 Report Comment

stephen ashtonA poor decsion. Moyes is putting our entire European season at risk. Lescott was our only decent defender on Saturday. Yobo and Hibbert were beyond poor and the goals were down to them not Lescott. With Lescott out of the running we don't stand a chance. Thanks David!

Reg The BlueAm I the only one who spends the whole day refreshing this site to see if there is any news on Lescott and our new signings? Something is obviously up here, Moyes is just buying time until he has a replacement for Lescott before he announces he's let him go to City because of his bad attitude. It all seems a bit public and childish putting all of the internal squabbles and managerial squabbles in the public domain. We're forgetting about what's most important here, EF and the football (which has been pretty awful of late)! I am glad Lescott has been dropped, I hope Rodwell takes his place and shines and we go on to win the Europa league! Now where are these signings we were promised in 48hrs? Do i have to keep refreshing this page for another week? I might be out of a job by then!

Wednesday 19th August 17:17 Report Comment

Steve CarthyDavid Moyes has been totally professional in the way that he has handled this. Mark Hughes has been devious, sly and underhand. Everybody knows what Moyes has done to keep the player at the club but in this day and age money talks & there is no such thing as loyalty in football anymore. David you've got to let the lad go, you won't lose credibility with the fans. Take the money and Petrov and go look for another diamond. You will still be in a job at Xmas unlike Hughes.!!!!

Wednesday 19th August 17:16 Report Comment

Kevin JamesI'm not surprised to be honest. I knew that saturdays result was partly down to him. The team spirit had been dented but hopefully now that he's out of the squad we can get our act together. He's obviously going to city but what's the betting he makes a parting shot at moyes when he goes. It stinks and reminds of nthe rooney saga. Obviously happens when a player thinks he's better than the club. Bye Bye lescott hope your carrer comes crashing down around you. You must have been inwardly laughing at the fans that cheered you against malaga and arsenal you s.o.b

Nathan DentI wasn't convinced with Rodwell as CB, Play 3 in defense and pack out the midfield to prevent counter attacking. Just a thought!

Joseph HomseyThis'll have to be the last straw for Lescott. If he doesn't go to city then he'll just want to leave the club. It'llbe a shame to lose a good player but he just doesn't want to be here anymore.

Anthony HarrisWell done DM, make him sit on the naughty step as well!! No morals, no pride, no 1st team. Lets take the 20m and move on with this saga, its affecting the rest of the team, replace him with Taylor and Senderos and still have 10m to play with. Let's have a good result tommorow night. JL thank u and goodnight!!

Karl JudgePersonally i am suprised he is still here, we should of sold him Monday and persued Taylor, now he has the reds coming in for him which means we miss out again probably. Hopefullly we will now put that shameful performance on saturday behind us and win convincingly against sigma. COYB

Wednesday 19th August 16:53 Report Comment

Jeremy Tinstonwell i think that's answered a few questions regarding jl's future with the club, if his attitude hasn't been good post match that speaks volumes to me. although i hate 2 say it but he's on way, moysey has been left with no choice . we just need to make sure that we get a good replacement now!

Wednesday 19th August 16:52 Report Comment

Cathy CondronGood on David Moyes. He needs to see players sorry for that performance on Saturday and obvioulsy Lescott hasnt shown that! He knows he will be playing in a different Blue soon - so let him go. If he wants to "spit his dummy" out then hes a sorry affair! He knows Jags is out till at least November and thats his stance on the situation! There will never be another club like Everton, Joleon and you will soon find that out for yourself at City! Everton have to hold out for a good pay off! If a player across the park is worth 30 mill then Lescott's got to be woth more than just 20 mill and City know that! They are going to play on Lescott wanting to leave now, so the price may come down for Everton. But take cash only, we dont want players near the end of careers thanks! COUB in Royal Blue.

barry delaneyThis is obviously the correct decision by David Moyes. This matter is now reaching a disappointing and inevitable end. Unfortunately, the player, has made a poor choice and will leave the club in the worst possible way. All for what-money. In so doing he has lost the respect of the club, staff and fans. He may well get his way but he has lost a lot and especially to the manager, who gave him the opportunity and with the coaches developed his skills to England level. I am certain, we can get a replacement of equal standard, and who will give 100% to Everton Football Club.

joe crosseI think lescott days are numbered at our great club at long last.I hope city come back today with a huge offer and a few players as well ,maybe moyes is holding out untill he sees what player or players city will offer him,the sooner the better he moves on as we are all sick of him at present ,come on moyes let him go you owe him nothing as for lescott he can never repay you or our great club in a million years ,this club is too proud and honest to be dragged down to citys standards or have they actually got any.I hope we can kick start our season in style 2moro night and show mr lescott life goes on with or without his services, nil satis nisi optimum is what we stand for and sorry mr lescott u ar simply not the best goodbye mr lescott u ar the weakest link.IN MOYES WE TRUST.

Terry HughesWell done moyes, let him go to man city,if he doesnt want to play for the best club with by far the best fans let him leave,in 12 months time when they want better defenders he will end up on there bench. Please sign some players soon god (moyes) use fans are taking some rubbish of other fans.

Callum* Greenall*I'm with moyes on this one, lescott is a quality player but i personally think that a player who actually wants to be at this club and play should start ahead of him, someone like rodwell. I also believe it's time moyes let lescott go, it will be hard as he may feal man city have overpowerd him because of the money they have. Sorry for any spelling mistakes ha.. ;)

Ajamu MutumwaI love Joleon, and as long as he plays in a royal blue shirt I'm not going to boo him, but he has now become poison and for me his days at our great club are numbered. Sell him, sell him quick and use the cash to buy those players we desperatly need.

Wednesday 19th August 16:34 Report Comment

ned mccarthywell that means hes going and to be honest im glad lets bleed man city dry for £20 plus or £16-18 plus petrov, we can use the money to bolster the squad and push on, lets ell now and conecntrate on ourselves, thios whole situation has overshadowed our preperations for the season culminating in the humiliation on the weekend bye lescott in moyes we trust as always COME ON EVERTON

Wednesday 19th August 16:34 Report Comment

simon harrislescott is sulking because moyes stood his ground, and respect to moyes for that. banega, hutton, bentley, petrov, elm, taylor now this is more like it. lescott will realise within weeks he has made a huge mistake and the only thing he would have improved is his bank balance, money does not buy happiness, get him out and move onwards and upwards. coyb and in moyes we very very much trust

Wednesday 19th August 16:33 Report Comment

cathie brownA good decision by Moyes. If Lescott does not haved the right attitude he does not have the right to be in the first team. Sell him and soon!
