Everton Football Club is pleased to announce its manager David Moyes has put pen-to-paper on a new five year contract.
The deal, signed on Tuesday afternoon at Finch Farm, ends months of speculation over the Blues boss’ future and keeps him on Merseyside until the end of the 2012/13 season.
Moyes has repeatedly insisted it was only a matter of time before the new deal was announced and he is now delighted all outstanding details have been finalised.
He told evertonfc.com: “There have been many different things for different reasons but we are here now and the big thing for me is that I am at Everton, as far as I am concerned, for another five years and the job is to make us better than we have been.
I am really excited and really pleased. I am pleased for everybody – I’m pleased for myself and my family who were desperate to get it signed and secured and it is always what I wanted to do.
“I have enjoyed my time here so far and I am looking forward to the next part as well. There is definitely a consistency at the Club; players know what they are doing and staff know what they are doing.
“It’s a great football club and I am privileged to be the manager.”
Moyes first walked through the Goodison Park doors back in March 2002 and since then has transformed the fortunes of the Club.
He added: “Since I took over six years ago, I think there has been an improvement and the job is that I want a similar improvement over the next five years or so.
“I want the ambition to be greater. I want the expectancy to be higher and I want Everton overall to be higher on the field and off the field. I am determined to try and take it forward."
The deal was brokered by Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright who added: There have always been two people – myself and David – confident that the long term future of the manager would eventually be secured. The signatures of those two people are now on a contract.
“I am obviously very pleased that the contract, that I’ve always believed to be the most important, is now concluded.”

Thank you David. Your players think the world of you, as do many of us supporters. You said earlier in the week that u wont please everyone, wel the minority that cant see what you have brought shouldnt call themself evertonians. They talk about negative football, why dont they talk about their own negative support?!!

I think we have missed Cars badly. He protects the back four and keep the defence water tight. We need these kind of players coming in. It seems we lost a 15million pound player and bought someone based on potential and youth.

i think its time to start searching for young and strong players to fill the right hand side. I still think we are not taking advantage of using wingers. We are still trying to walk the ball into the box. As for the comment by Steven Grace. Some people have very short memories of where we were just six years ago. Some people think it happens over night. Shame on you.

Well said Stephen Grace. Negative, boring football is what we blues get served up week after week. This is not the Everton way of playing football but this is what Mr Moyes has us watch.
