David Moyes has confirmed that is interested in bringing Gavin McCann back to Goodison Park.
The 25-year-old Sunderland midfielder is the latest player to be linked with a summer switch as the Blues Boss contemplates an alternative to Sean Davis.
Davis is expected to have further talks with Fulham later today, but if the London club fail to lower their asking price for the 23-year-old then Moyes will look elsewhere.
Everton old boy McCann is someone the Blues' coaching staff have discussed and an enquiry has already been made regarding his availability at the Stadium of Light.
McCann, who left Goodison in a £500,000 deal in 1998 that gave Everton 25 per cent of any sell on fee if over £1.5 million.
But with the Black Cats valuing McCann at around £3 million, Moyes feels that they are currently overpricing their man.
"He's a player that I have made an enquiry about but at the present time the price that's being asked for him is too much," Moyes told evertonfc.com at the Blues' training base in Austria.
"That's how it is but he is a player that we admire and it's true that we are interested in Gavin."
Moyes has also reiterated to the Goodison faithful that as soon as anything happens in the transfer market they will be the first to know.
Speculation has been rife for weeks over who could be arriving at Goodison this summer with Sean Davis, Steve McManaman and McCann just some of the names being touted.
But in truth there is very little to report, though Moyes still hopes he can introduce some new faces before the Premiership opener with Arsenal next month.
He added: "I think everyone is trying to make some moves and we're no exception.
"We've been linked with a few players this summer. Once something happens we'll tell the fans."
