LOWDOWN: WEST HAM UNITED

Lowdown: West Ham United

Saturday 7 November 2009, 10:42

Head to Head

This is our 55th visit to West Ham in the league and our 109th league meeting with the Hammers in total. Our full record is:

Home  54  35  10
Away  54  19  13  22
Total  108  54  22  32

Last season the Toffees completed a league double over Sunday’s opponents. The first win came thanks to a 3-1 win at Upton Park exactly twelve months ago, with three late goals in four minutes from Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha (2).

At Goodison in May we triumphed 3-1, with Saha becoming the first Everton player to score two goals home and away against the same side in one Premier League campaign. Joseph Yobo netted our other goal.

We have won on our last three visits to Upton Park in all competitions.

Everton’s Premier League record against West Ham is as follows:

Home  14 9
Away  14
Total  28  15

Our best away victory in the Premier League is 4-0, at Upton Park in February 2000.

The Toffees have won more Premier League matches against West Ham than any other team:

West Ham United 15
Middlesbrough 13
Blackburn Rovers 12
Bolton Wanderers 11
Manchester City 11
Southampton  11
Newcastle United 10

The Managers

The Everton boss has won six and lost two of his 11 encounters against West Ham in all competitions since joining the Toffees in 2002. The Everton manager’s record at Upton Park is particularly impressive; four wins and a draw from six visits.

This is the third meeting between the two managers, with David Moyes victorious in their two previous encounters last season.

Gianfranco Zola lost just one of the 13 matches he played for Chelsea against the Blues during his playing career, scoring six goals.

The Goals

The last hat-trick in the fixture was the three scored by Nick Barmby at Upton Park in February 2000 and the last at Goodison came from Kevin Campbell in May 1999. West Ham are the only side we have scored two hat-tricks against in the Premier League.

No West Ham player has scored three since Jimmy Ruffell at Upton Park in 1931.

Tim Cahill is on 48 career goals for Everton.

The Players

A total of six players have been sent off in the fixture; two for Everton and four for West Ham. The most recent dismissal for Everton came when Alan Irvine saw red at Upton Park in November 1982 - our only league sending off against the Hammers. West Ham’s James Tomkins received his marching orders in May at Goodison.

Tony Hibbert made his Everton debut in this fixture in March 2001.
