But manager David Moyes remains hopeful the England international will be able to return to action when Malaga visit Goodison Park on Friday.
"Joleon picked up a hip injury while we were in America," said Moyes.
"We don't expect him to be fit for Tuesday but hopefully he can make it on Friday against Malaga."
In Lescott's absence, 18-year-old Jack Rodwell stepped into central defence.
And Moyes joked: "Well it was either Jack played at centre-back or [reserve team manager] Andy Holden!
"Jack just got the nod there. You can see that Jack is still a developing footballer and he still has a long way to go and we shouldn't expect too much of him too soon."
Everton: Nash, Howard, Hibbert, Neville, Rodwell, Yobo, Baines, Fellaini, Cahill, Osman, Baxter, Wallace, Vaughan, Saha, Jo, Agard, Jutkiewicz, Duffy, Forshaw

alan bellOk,I think this hip injury is a poor cover up. If senderos decides to come,Everton will let Lescott leave,If not i think Lescott stays. Lescott has got £££££ signs in his eyes,Plain and simple. Why should we care? No player is bigger than the club,We have proved that in the past and will prove it again. Let him go,Leave for a club with no team spirit or commitment because they are all money men and not interested in who they play for. Let him look on and be wishing he stayed and played for a TEAM that want to play for each other for the love of the club and the game and not £££££.

Paul Ellami reckon we should let him go now, weve made our stance but it wont mean jack in the end cos he wants his money. is he really THAT good anyway? dont get me wrong, i think hes sound but as ive stated before, he cant even oust upson from the england set up, and will have no chance when jagielka gets fit again! he is easily replaceable and with the 20-odd million we will get for him we should be able to get in players of real class. as long as we keep the galacticos (cahill, arteta, yakubu, jagielka, fellaini) im a happee toffee!! :-)

Kevin Jamesso lescott has told moyes he wants to leave and moyes has told him he's going nowhere, if he dosen't go does that mean the amazing closeness of the boys and team spirit that we are renowned for will be smashed to pieces. i understand that it would be stupid to weaken the team and sell to a team who will probably be one of our rivals this season bit what would happen with an unhappy player in the ranks. it happened to villa last season with gareth barry and look how poor they were at the end of the season

Cathy CondronOK Shaun....i think i will go out and buy myself the Man City shirt coz as you say they are at present buying every good player going and we cant! So as Joleon doesnt feel any loyalty to us.... we may as well support another club and do the same! OR NOT! Footballers dont live in the real world anyway and not many understand the concept of loyalty and what fans have with their love for their club! Its all about money, you either have it or you dont and we would all love Everton to be a rich club, if we were we wouldnt have as much trouble (i hope) in signing players....but then who knows! We seem to have a stigma for players not wanting to come to this great club and id love to know why!

peter andersonI would hate for lescott to go but am getting angry at the thought that not only does he want to leave but he is obviously trying to con us out of the transfer fee. How quickly he has forgotten all the club has done for him. Maybe he should look at the amount of wolves players in the england squad. Be a man Lescott and if the tripled wages mean more than loyalty then do the decent thing by the club and fans and put in a transfer request, we don't need you, Everton are a true team and will carry on being so long after hughes is sacked (by next season prob) and man city are demanding god knows what from players who are being bought for amounts that in no way represents there skill.

Ang EugeneGuys! It's okie to let lescott leave. NO point having a player that his heart is not with the tofees. Lescott departure won't have any impact on everton. We have jaikgalka to cover and yobo and baines is impressive on the left. I like to say don't let lescott leave under 25million. Best, it be better to offload him 30million..,use the money to cash in on our PRESTIGIOUS club long time target JOAO MOUTIHUO. I would like my beloved club EVERTON to buy Rafael Van der vaart, joao or try buying joe cole. Defenders i suggest.., yes..,senderos, colocini, or vilareal young defender..,opps i forgot the name. haha

Shaun BrennanLet's get real, the vast majority of you would move jobs for more money. footballers are no different. Loyalty counts for nothing. it's a short career and you'd want to rake in as much money as is possible. Everton can't afford to offer the wages City are willing to pay. Besides, city are much improving, buying decent players whilst, Everton are remaining stagnant and not signing anyone of any note.

Cathy CondronWhy does Joleon Lescott want to leave Everton? The club who have made him what he is today, a first teams player for club and country and who will be in Europe next season for Everton and most likely England with the World Cup. I want to know who has been talking to him because obvioulsy someone from City must have spoken to him to make him want to leave. It cant all be what we have read in the papers that Lescott is listening too. I hope Everton stick to thier guns and dont let him go. Face the back lash like Gareth Barry did and do us proud in the league and in Europe. Everton have been good to Joleon as he has always said when Moyes took him from Wolves and he is prepared to walk away knowing that Jags is out till at least November. No loyalty whatsover Joleon and im devastated once again that a player is going to do it to us .....yet again! I know its got to be the money it cant be for any other reason as City arent going anywhere for a few seasons just yet but it doesnt make us fans feel betrayed and let down before the season kick offs. C O U B for the 15th!

Tony WoodersonI'd be sorry to see him go. He is a class act. However, if I was offered double my salary to do the same job without having to move house, I'd do it. Everyone in the world would. I agree that Lescott's silence speaks volumes and Bill should now gleam as much as he can for him and give it all to David for team strengthening. By the way, Senderos is not good enough for our club!

Anna Spencerits all disapointing and once again looking like an annoying inactive pre-season! Frankly im very disapointed in lescott, his silence says it all for me, as if he wanted to stay he'd have well put this all to bed by now! I'd love bill kenwright to publish this so called letter lescott is going to write to him as to why he wants to leave! I personally would not let him go unless they give us 30 million! he will soon regret wanting to leave then when the fans give him stick and moyes puts him on the bench, wont do his chances of getting in the england squad any good! Unless he comes out now and says he doesnt want to go, then his good times here will all be undone IMO! Im still baffled by it all to be honest, i really thought he would be happy here with the comeradery, team spirit, constant top 7 finish etc... he may get more money at city but no guarentees of any of that spirit or success!!!

Chris MurtaghSenderos is on his way, so a third rate player coming to a first rate club. Desparation signing, and it won't do anything at all to warn me off worrying about the coming few weeks before the transfer window shuts. As for Lescott, the only club I could accept he joined would be Villa (boyhood Villa fan that he is.) Presuming he does leave to City, it is out of money, we made him what he is and he throws it back in our face.

David Somerville I have just read in the Post the Lescott has told DM he wants to leave. In that case he should put in a transfer request and lose out on his transfer "bonus". Players who don’t want to play for Everton can go as far as I am concerned, he is leaving for one reason, money. This just goes to show that greed and not playing the game is what he is about, I believed he was more of a man than this. I could understand if he was on a pittance at Everton but clearly all that concerns him is his bank balance. Screw City for everything we can and move. I hope he reaps what he sows.

Dan EFCLike somebody said earlier, the sale of Rooney for £30m was a big turning point in our recent history. The sale of Lescott could be the same. The money would really boost our chances of signing some quality players this summer. Ideally id like an agreement made where he goes in January when Jags is fit again.

Sell now and get time for new players to bed in. Richards part of deal & maybe Mancienne from Chelsea for season. Defour would also be a good signing

Taxi for BK? Whats the point? We cant even compete with clubs not in europe for Championship players, you cant even console yourself with "we are building for the future by buying young talent" Something at the club smells bad and I can smell it from here.

I would say that he has done a fantastic job for Everton since his arrival and if he does have to go I would hope the £25m+ offer it would take to get him to get him to be spent on promising or proven British talent....David Bentley,Micah Richards,Gareth O'Neill or even Niko Krancaar....... good quality squad players!

Tony WoodersonLet's get real. No matter what DM or BK say, EVERY player has his price. It's a sad fact of life that In our position, we have to consider all offers. I suspect DM has little or no money to spend which is why he has been so inactive in the market for the umpteenth close season. Despite the vast sum of money on offer, I sincerely hope DM tells Lescott that he's under contract and he stays. My personal fear is that I don't think he's injured - I believe the club is in negotiations with City and I wouldn't be surprised if an announcement is made in the next few days. What I think annoys me most is the feeling that I'm being mugged off by both club and player.

Sean KeigherIt's plain to see Lescott has played his last game for Everton. I wouldn't be surprised if he is a Man City player by end of the week. Let's take £25 mil for him, send him on his way and get in another quality centre half. Talks of Senderos from Arsenal, not so sure about him, if he's not good enough for Arsenal, he's not good enough for the Toffees. We would seriously want to star adding some quality to the side asap.

Paul HowellsI think if Lescott plans on staying, which I really hope he does, then he should still turn up at the blackpool game and watch from the stands to show his commitment and support for the lads. The only thing city can offer him that we cant is money, We can offer him european football, a bunch of lads with great team spirit and a team that values him. At city he wont get that team spirit or be as valued as much. Perhaps we could tell him to stay this season and if City get into top four an we dont then let him go next season, at least then he would be getting something there that he isn't here.

Must be jealous of our spirit) are trying to get rasmus elm, i believe we should go after this guy, he is going to be and right now is a solid player but he will do fine in the epl and would be a good buy, please moyes, we need transfers NOW, not after the first game like last season. I and so many fans are frustrated with the same every year, we've done well enough to invest. What happened to we need to bring in 5 or 6 players to improve on 5th. John HornI sincerely hope that there is nothing sinister in Joleon's absence from the Coventy and Blackpool games and that he does actually have a slight injury. We are very short of central defenders and his departure would create a void which will be very difficult to fill From his point of view, he can, if reports are to be believed, triple his wages by moving to an inferior team, and even the most loyal club servant would find that difficult to turn down, so if he does move on, we will be bitterly disappointed but would need to ask what we would do in his position. What will be will be
