Krenn Aiming For The Top
We speak to Academy's 17-year-old Austrian midfielder.
Fourteen goals in three games; none conceded.
Everton Under-18s have every reason to be delighted with their start to the 2008/09 campaign.
One player who has particularly impressed is Austrian midfielder Georg Krenn.
The 17-year-old has scored three in three himself, including a wondergoal in last weekend's 4-0 win over Barnsley.
"I'm feeling very happy and very confident at the moment," Krenn told evertonTV. "My goal against MK Dons came from a save by their keeper - I just tapped it into the corner.
"Then it was another tap in against Derby but against Barnsley I took in past someone on the edge of the box, took it past three players and found a finish. That was the best one.
"I'm not surprised by how well we've started. I thought we had a good team; same as last year. Hopefully we can stay at the top of the table."
Everton's only defeat so far came at Arsenal. Krenn was impressed by the football played by the Young Gunners, but believes Everton can reach their level.
"They pass the ball very well, keep the ball, never give it away and score goals," he said.
"That is the best team I've ever played against I think. That's how we should aim to be and I think we can reach that level."
Now in his second season at Goodison, Krenn holds fond memories of the day the Toffees came calling.
"I first heard of Everton's interest after an international game with Austria," he recalls. "It was an exciting day. It was a hard decision to make as I had to leave my family but it was my dream to play in England."
A skillful, attack-minded player, Krenn is as ambitious as they come. Asked which player he'd like to emulate, the Austrian aimed for the very top of the world game.
"I want to play like Ronaldinho!," Krenn proclaimed. "His dribbling and skills with the ball are unbelievable."
First he must concentrate on the job in hand at Everton - starting with the visit of Sunderland on Saturday.
"I really want us to win again but Sunderland are a good team," he said. "I want to score a few more goals and, if I do, hopefully I can get into the reserve team."
