Andy Johnson has vowed to repay the fans with goals after being mobbed at the final whistle of his first appearance for the club.
The £8.6m club record signing failed to net in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Bury in the first friendly of the pre-season campaign.
He was denied on five occasions by Bury goalkeeper Alan Fettis, who was in fine form.
On the final whistle the England international was mobbed on the pitch by hundreds of Evertonians before eventually leaving the pitch minus his shirt, socks and boots.
After the game, he spoke exclusively to evertonTV: "The fans were brilliant today and they are the main reason I signed for the club. They had to persevere with me a little bit because I missed a few chances, which is disappointing.
"But it is only the first game of pre-season and I am delighted to get 90 minutes under my belt."
Indeed, Johnson is in no doubt he will get much sharper as the pre-season training programme hots up in the weeks ahead.

He continues: "We have only been working with the football for two or three days so I am confident the goals will come.
"I was happy with my movement but I have got to get my timing now and we will do a bit more finishing in training but I am confident the goals will come anyway.
"It was a good performance, we passed the ball well. Towards the end of the first-half the boys started to get tired but everyone is delighted they got 90 minutes.
"It was difficult conditions but the fans were brilliant. They turned out in their hundreds and were tremendous."
