HOWARD FACES SPAIN
Tim Howard keeps a clean sheet as the USA take on Spain.
Tim Howard kept a clean sheet as he played 45 minutes for the USA against Spain.
It was goalless at the break, but with the Everton man replaced, Spain scored in the 79th minute as they prepared for Euro 2008 with a 1-0 win.
Howard denied Liverpool's Xabi Alonso after ten minutes and had to be alert a few moments later to snuff out the danger as Santi Cazorla threatened.
The USA gave as good as they got in the first half, with Eddie Johnson of Fulham a nuisance up front and recently-released Carlos Bocanegra sturdy at the back.
Just as had occurred at Wembley against England last week, Howard was replaced at half time by Brad Guzan.
Johnson had a great headed chance ten minutes into the second period, but headed wide - then Barcelona's Xavi lashed a free kick against the bar after the hour mark.
The Spaniards continued their second half pressure and inevitably took the lead wiith ten minutes left.
Xavi finished calmly after slipping away from the US backline.
America now head back over the Atlantic for a glamourous friendly with Argentina on Sunday.

Andrew BallingallHes clearly one of the best keepers in the premiership and has won us more games than I can remember, if USA dont win it surely cant be his fault because if they were all as good as him they would dominate the game
