HILL GUNNING FOR GLORY
One of the most eagerly anticipated games of the season awaits Everton Ladies on Sunday – the league showdown against Arsenal.
Just over six weeks ago, the Blues ended the Gunners’ 59 game unbeaten run to win the League Cup.
With 11 points separating Everton from leaders Arsenal, goalkeeper Danielle Hill is confident the Toffees can overcome the North Londoners for a second time this campaign and increase the pressure on the champions.
She told evertonTV: “We have shown that we are good enough to beat the likes of Arsenal.
“We are away from home, so it’s going to be really tough but everybody is going to go into the game like it’s our FA Cup final. They have not been beaten for so long in the league and one of our targets is to try and catch them in the league.
“I was speaking to our assistant coach Andy (Spence) and he said Arsenal were gutted that we didn’t get to the FA Cup final because they wanted to show that they are the best team in the country.”
Hill, an England under 19 international, has earned rave reviews since deputising for regular goalkeeper Rachel Brown, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since December.
Indeed, the Liverpool-born shot stopper pays tribute to her teammates.
She added: “I have come into it like I have any other season and it’s not a big deal for me to come in and play for the seniors. Everybody around me helps – the back four are amazing and I don’t think there is a better back four in the league.
“Rachel (Brown) helps me a lot and we help each other. If Rachel is playing I will support her and it’s good competition which we have not got throughout the whole team.”
