HEITINGA: FLETCHER GOAL HURT US

Heitinga: Fletcher Goal Hurt Us

John Heitinga admitted Darren Fletcher's stunning volley changed the game after Everton suffered a 3-0 defeat at Manchester United.

The Blues showed a spirited resolve to deny the champions early on but could do little about the Scotsman's exquisite 34th-minute opener.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side went on to add to their lead in the second half through midfielders Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia, but Heitinga believes it was Fletcher's contribution which ultimately swung the clash in United's favour.

"After it the game changed and they started to play better and better," he told evertonTV. "At half time we spoke about it and I think we did well in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

"We created some chances and, if you're lucky, you'll score one of them. But after that they made it 2-0 and the game was over."

Everton's next game sees them travel to Hull City on Wednesday.

They will have to do so without the suspended Marouane Fellaini after the Belgian picked up a fifth booking of the campaign, while the trio of Steven Pienaar, Leon Osman and Phil Neville were not deemed fit enough to feature at Old Trafford.

But Heitinga insists the dressing room atmosphere is positive and remains confident the Blues can return to winning ways at the KC Stadium.

"The team spirit is good and Wednesday is a new game," he said. "We need the points and we need to win."

Jack Rodwell, what to do with the boy. I think EFC have to put an insance price on his head to keep him. On a brighter note, a win over Liverpool could see blundering benitez get a p45 get on it lads.

In my opinion we need to be working on Fellaini and improving his total game. He is very good with the ball, has an eye for a pass and can also put them away. However, that is a luxury and when we have players injured that do the tough tackling and niggling at the oponents ankles, we should be training him in the skill of getting stuck in with hard tackles and chasing oponents down. Its no good having a luxury like Fellaini if there isnt the graft there around him.

It must be difficult when we seems to be dong well with our defending and suddenly a cracker goal from Fletcher changes things completely. I think against Top team like United we need to take the initative and keep it tight not at the back but from midfield area, I know it's easy to say than do but this is what we should aim to do, just like what Benfica did to us!
