EURO 2008 BETTING LATEST
Latest Euro 2008 odds from Paddy Power.
Despite their reputation as the perennial chokers of world football, Spain is the most popular team for punters at Euro 2008, reports bookie Paddy Power.
Forever billed as a contender at almost every tournament they play in but forever falling at an early hurdle, punters are latching on to a star-filled Spanish team in the belief it could finally be their year.
In Paddy Power's Euro 2008 analysis, Spain, who are 11/2 to win the trophy, are followed by Portugal as the most backed team - with Holland, despite being in the Group of Death with World Cup finalists Italy and France, the third most-backed team.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: "Punters might not admit it publicly for fear of ridicule but Spain are the most backed team to win the tournament. But will Fabregas and co make everyone regret ignoring their history of choking on the big stage?"
Russian Dark Horses
Whilst Spain is the most backed team Russia are currently Paddy Power's biggest loser. The outsiders are proving a dark horse with one punter set to win over £250,000 should Guus Hiddink's team lift the trophy after placing a £5000 each way bet at 33/1.
Austria have been billed as the worst team ever to play in the tournament and punters agree with the hosts being the least backed team by Paddy Power punters. Premier League stars Fernando Torres and Cristiano Ronaldo are the most backed players to be the tournament's top scorers.
