Donovan Set For Debut

David Moyes adds the loan striker to the squad that travels to Arsenal.

Donovan Set For Debut

David Moyes adds Landon Donovan to the squad that beat Carlisle in the FA Cup last weekend as Everton travel to Arsenal.

While the Blues boss has been boosted by Mikel Arteta and Victor Anichebe's return to training this week it will be some time before they will be available for selection.

But the on-loan LA Galaxy striker could find himself in line for a debut at the Emirates as Louis Saha fights to shake off a hamstring problem.

Joseph Yobo and Yakubu are away on international duty with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations.

Donovan has trained with his new team mates this week so is in contention for his Everton debut in the capital.

The manager hopes the American international's arrival on Merseyside has boosted the rest of the squad.

"I hope the other players are given confidence by his arrival and they see that we have brought in a proven international player who we hope can help us," Moyes told

With the MLS season finishing in November, Donovan has undertaken his own training in the States to boost his fitness.

Moyes accepts it will be tough to expect the striker to hit the ground running.

"It will be difficult to expect any player to come to another country and deliver immediately.

"You always have to give people time.  I think that Landon though could play quite a lot of games in the two and a half months he is here," explained Moyes.  "Hopefully he can help us in some of the cups and in the league and if he does that it will be a help to the team."

Phil Jagielka, who began running this week, remains sidelined.

Everton (from): Howard, Nash, Hibbert, Baines, Heitinga, Bilyaletdinov, Donovan, Vaughan, Cahill, Neville, Pienaar, Osman, Neill, Fellaini, Coleman, Duffy, Agard, Baxter, Akpan, Mustafi.

daniel byrneI’m both an EPL and USA Men’s National Team fan. Donovan is most effective as a second striker / attacking midfielder. He can not compare to Arteta, Saha, Pienaar, Cahill, and Fellaini. That said, he WILL give every other midfielder and striker a reason to work harder. Weaknesses: one-on-one, creativity and personality! Strengths: endless energy and tremendous work-rate, pace, slashing runs followed by killer passes, first touch, and vision. I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores 3 or 4 goals and has half a dozen assists over the next 15 games.

Soccer LADonovan is the best field player the US has ever had. His speed and vision creates 3/4's of the goals for the US national team-- either with sublime passing or deft finishing. He is underrated overseas but everybody in the US knows he can play with anyone. The eyes from across the pond will be supporting Everton as you have our two best players! I am worried he will be thrown into the forward spot, he is much better as a winger roaming the field and creating dangerous scoring opportunities. Enjoy!

Charles DanielsIm a huge everton supporter from the US. So seeing Landon come over is very exciting for me as a American as well as an everton supporter. I feel like the american Everton fans have even higher hopes than anyone else, but i feel he can live up to this hes been a quality player in the states and i think his game is ready from a good bump up.

Chris GerdingYou guys will like Landon. He's fast and never gets tired, and he creates a lot of scoring opportunities.

Gary SimmonsWould be good to see Coleman given a run in the team. He's much more creative than Hibbert could ever hope to be and delivers a far better ball into the box

Richard JacobsGood Luck Landon on your debut. I remember Brian McBride coming to Everton and he did a good job for us. He was brave and was a good target man. Although you are a different player to him, I hope you play with the same passion as Brian.

Samuel Collinsim a bit sceptical whether donavan will adapt to the premier league as it is much different to the MLS but on the bright side he is one of U.S.A'S most capped players and top goal scorer of all time... not forgeting he is only 27. so he should bring us experience and goals come on landon lad. arsenal is gunna be a tough game but lets give it a good go.... COYB!!!

Dom TulettNeville's just come back, Donovan's here, Arteta and Anichebe are back in light training and Jagielka's off and running. This is feeling good. Something clicked a couple of weeks back and I can see some real momentum rolling on here. Big couple of months ahead and I can see a few really big wins in that time.

Simon ParkesGood luck for the blues tomorrow. We need a few more loan signings - what about Manny (again) Why have we not offered Steven Pienaar a new contract yet??? He wants to stay and has been our best player for the past two seasons - Let's sort this out before everyone tries to steal him after the World Cup!!
