Landon Donovan has been granted a work permit for his loan move to Everton.
Blues boss David Moyes revealed last week that a temporary deal to bring the USA international to Merseyside from the LA Galaxy had been agreed.
Donovan has racked up 120 caps for his country and was subsequently granted the work permit for his two-and-a-half month stay at a hearing on Tuesday.
He is now free to begin his stint at Everton when the transfer window re-opens on January 2.
The 27-year-old has already spoken of his desire to move to Everton, where he will link up with compatriot Tim Howard.
Donovan has also scored more international goals than any other American and was named the MLS MVP (Most Valuable Player) last season.
