Donovan Given Number Nine
The new loan signing asked about taking famous shirt as his own.
Landon Donovan will be given the famous number nine shirt at Everton.
The 27-year-old officially joined the Club on a 10-week-loan from American MLS side LA Galaxy on January 4.
The USA international is the Blues' first signing in the January transfer window and his experience will bring a lot to David Moyes' squad which has succumbed to a plethora of injuries this campaign.
He takes over the shirt number which was last worn by Louis Saha, before he switched to his favoured eight in the closed season.
And the American insists he knows the significance of the jersey.
"I am aware of the history of the number nine here in the Premier League and also the history of it at Everton," he declared.
"I am proud that Everton would give it to me and I intend to do the jersey proud as well. It did come as a shock when I was told I would be number nine.
"At the end of the day you get on the field and play but it is an honour to wear a special number, especially here."
