Distin's Best Ever Welcome
Sylvain Distin says his Everton welcome was the best he's received.
Distin was in the side that beat Wigan 2-1 on Sunday and received a warm reception from the Evertonians when his name was read out and throughout the clash with the Latics.
And having played for Newcastle, Manchester City and Portmouth in the Premier League, the Frenchman was able to reflect on the warmth of his Everton welcome.
"It was a great reception," he told evertonTV. "I have played for three clubs before here and so far it's the best reception I have had. I was a little surprised, but delighted.
"I was very excited before the game and a little bit anxious. The first game for a new club is very important, you want to make a good impression."
And despite having only joined the Toffees on Friday, Distin did seem to impress his new fans - with the 32-year-old insisting only a clean sheet could have made it a better debut.
"I had only one training session with the lads so the important thing was to keep it simple and get used to it," he explained.
"A clean sheet would have been better but it was my first game and my first win, so that is the plus.
"A few of the lads are going on international duty now," he added. "I will try to settle in and find a place to live and get to know the other lads a bit better."

Mick EganYour'e very welcome Sylvan, was a solid performance you gave which is always appreciated! Many managers have admitted they fear the atmosphere at Goodison, and now u know why!! Well done and good luck settling down. Everton don't need overpaid superstars like city, we prefer hard working professionals who play with passion for the game. COYB!!!!

Tuesday 1st September 18:43 Report CommentJez WykeJon, do you think Distan took a paycut to come to Everton? Gareth, same question. Why would he demand a chauffer? He's a good player, but he's a professional, he plays for money. Get used to it. They all do.

Philip LuxonI thought distin was outstanding having just arrived and jumping into the action. Despite his age, he is one of the better centre halfs in the prem so the price for me is worth it. Take his age out of it and weve just replaced jolly with someone if not better than jolly then easily just as good. Nice moyesy

James WilkinsonDistin played a very good game, good signing by Moyes, seems Heitinga is finally at Finch Farm, looks like a good signing and can play at RB, CB and defensive mid, thoe are all positions which everton lack, also it was good/bad news, good news is that i heard Moyes wanted van Der Vaart, would have been a good signing, but the bad news is Real want him back, also cant believe Krancjar went for 2 million pounds, that is a steal, oh well, im sure MOyes can find another player or two before the window closes, COYB!!!

gareth butterworthWhen the lad drives to Goodison himself in the evening for his medical 'cos there's no plane from the South - & he doesn't demand a chauffeur-driver - shows what signing for EVERTON meant to him, Good on you Sylvan, welcome to the best club in the world.
