Distin Deal Agreed

Everton agree a deal to sign defender Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth.

Distin Deal Agreed

Everton have agreed a deal to sign defender Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old Frenchman will put pen to paper on a three-year-deal subject to passing a medical, which will take place at Finch Farm on Thursday evening.

Chief Executive Robert Elstone confirmed: "All the formalities have been completed.  After Sylvain made it clear his preferred destination was Goodison, the Chairman moved quickly to finalise the deal and Sylvain is now on his way to Merseyside to undergo a medical."

David Moyes moved for the experienced former Paris St Germain, Newcastle United and Manchester City player after agreeing to sell England international Joleon Lescott earlier this week.

The Blues boss is also without long-term injury absentee Phil Jagielka until October at the earliest and has been forced to play midfield regular Phil Neville at centre-back in Everton's last two games.

Distin will become Moyes' third major capture of the current transfer window, following on-loan striker Jo and Russian international midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov into Goodison Park. Subject to passing the medical, Distin could begin his Everton career on Sunday when Wigan Athletic are the visitors to Goodison.

An FA Cup winner with Pompey in 2008, Distin, who was the subject of a reported move to Aston Villa, can play left back as well as his preferred central-defensive position.

Tickets for the clash with Wigan are available to buy now - click here.

John Hau31 ain't too old, with experience they gets better and Distin has been looking after himself and he still looks like he is in great shape, there are alot of example where CB still playing for top team at the age of 35 or above, our good old "Weir" is already an great example, how about "Paolo Maldini" he play for AC Milan till he retire at 41 and I am sure there are other example, so who can says "Distin" couldn't play for us beyond next three years?

Adam LaffoleyPaul Smith I'm afraid you've been playing a bit too much Football Manager with those names you've pulled up....Why would we need Igor Akinfeev when we already have a top goalie? Sakho would also be a brilliant addition but....this isn't football manager as our chances would probably be slim. Taylor I'd say, Jo has also got to find some pace.

Michael DunnA good solid signing, want Stephen Taylor now and a RB. Whats happening with Bagena?? Bentley could do a job for us I dont fancy that Scott Brown from Celtic tho.

Friday 28th August 09:32 Report Comment

Darren CadmanStrong, Fast and Experienced. We wanted someone to replace JL and Moyes has not let us down. There are a couple of doubters on the comments.... Remember, in Moyes we trust! Now lets see a couple more youthful prospect signings. Hibbert looking tired, Fill RB and strengthen the squad further. Welcome Sylvain.

Xenophon LawCORRECTION...Rasmus Elm HAS joined Alkmaar. That's a shame because he signed for only £2.5million. Bargain in this day and age. Come Mr Moyes, who are you keeping up your sleeve? I am genuinely excited, whoever it is.

Friday 28th August 09:03 Report Comment

Xenophon LawOooooh, isn't this exciting? Who will Everton sign next? I haven't been this excited since we signed Big Dunc, the first time around! Sylvain Distin was Man City's and Pompey's best defender for a couple of seasons. But it's funny how, with cash, everyone who signs for Man City is suddenly 'the best'! I think Distin is a good signing and he can play all along the back line. The only thing that concerns me is his temperament. But Moyes will get the best out of him, if anyone can. Ever Banega could our "nd signing. Valencia are negotiating the clause of first refusal. Everton want first refusal to sign him if he's any good. Valencia want it left open so they can get more money at the end of the loan spell. He'll sign regardless. Our 3rd signing has to be Steven Taylor and I'd like to see Rory Delap sign. That throw is a fantastic attacking option. Failing him, Micheal Turner of Hull. And how about young Joe Ledley from Cardiff too seeing as he's only 10 months left on his contract? He'd be quite cheap and he's a good youngster too. But we still need another striker. Jo looked out of his depth and I can't believe how paceless he is. Bring back AJ!!! Wagner Love is available on the cheap now, or how about Ruud Van Nistelrooy for a pay as you play deal? And WELCOME BACK Yak. We need your goals. I'd love Joao Moutinho to be one of the 'mystery' signings, but his fee would be so big, it just couldn't be kept quiet from the media. I think the magic 4 signings will be...Distin (obviously), Rasmus Elm, Ever Banega and....Steven Taylor I hope! Mind you, with Huth and Tuncay at Stoke (bargains I think) maybe Shawcross WILL head this way?

Andrew BallingallThis boy is a good player but we still need a solid right back, even though I love hibbert and a defensive centre back

Friday 28th August 08:25 Report Comment

Paul Smithi agree a good signing to start with. Still think we should be looking at Darijo Srna as he plays defence and midfield and can nick a goal as well. Would love to Srna in an Everton Shirt. Come on u Toffee's.

kev birchalli'd rather have payed 5 mil for a proven prem defender than risked leaving it to late and ending up with nothing. yes it's expensive at his age but hey 4 days to go and clubs are going to ask top prices at this late stage!

Thursday 27th August 23:25 Report Comment

Neil MartinI lot of people are comenting on the amount we have paid for him., but he is a ready made replacement for Lescott. Fair enough he maybe not as good but we dont have to train him into a prem player and we got £18 mill to spare! Still think we need a player in the "Lee Carsley" role. CANGRATULATIONS to all the players and staff on getting us to the group stage. COYB!!!

Danny LogueI don't think 31 is too old for the role he's here to play. If he's anything like Stubbsy, Weir, or Goughy he's got plenty of distinguished years ahead of him.

Paul Ellamlistened to pat nevin earlier and agree with what he was saying - the club has done great buisness by getting so much for lescott (worth half that!) and then replacing him with an equally good player in distin. all we need now is taylor from newcastle and maybe defour? or will moyes up the ante for luisao?? the excitement is gripping!!!

Thursday 27th August 21:11 Report Comment

James MorganThis will prove to be a useful addition to the squad as he has lots of experience. I still feel Moyes will pull in another younger centre half so we will be as strong as ever at the back. A quality right back and winger plus a midfielder to compliment Arteta would go down well. IMWT

Simon ParkesGreat signing for the blues. He is strong, quick and powerful. He has carried an ageing Sol Campbell for years. Very happy with this transfer but we need to quickly get a few more deals in before Tuesday. Lets complete the Benega deal and bring in a right back and right midfielder.

Thursday 27th August 20:45 Report Comment

Pete Jones-HallTonights sending off surely makes a RB an even bigger priority. Even tho the ball to him was poor, I think Hibbert is being left behind, quality wise, as Everton move forward. One more CB and cover at LB and I think we have the makings of a good squad.

Thursday 27th August 20:22 Report Comment

James OswaldGreat signing. £6 mil is a lot; but there is a shortage of quality centre backs and Distin come with loads of experience that could make Rodwell into a £40 mil England International in 3 years time. Agree we need a right-back, (rumour has it Steven Taylor has been agreed for) another centre back and a midfield and forward. Would love to see Vagner Love in the Royal Blue Jersey. You don’t know if there’s a spare shirt with a number 9 on it do you?!!! COYB

Thursday 27th August 20:09 Report Comment

Franny Dysontheres no doubt Distin is a beast but at 31 theres no future in him i would'nt mind if DM goes out and plucks a gem from the championship in his early twenties for cover and bring him in slowly over the next couple of years

Thursday 27th August 20:08 Report Comment

Simon BoothJoseph Sage - if we're judging every player by his performance against Arsenal this year we're stuffed mate! I like this signing. International and a wealth of PL experience. Also at an age where he won't mind sitting out the odd game. Also a Frenchman to keep the rejuvinated King Louis happy. Big fight on his hands to take the centre half spot from Phil Neville though......

Thursday 27th August 20:00 Report Comment

Gareth MossGreat signing - classy centre half with strength, tackling, passing, vision and experience. Just what we need. On his day he's better than Lescott and has the right Everton attitude to match. Welcome Sylvain!

Thursday 27th August 19:41 Report Comment

Mick EganWelcome Sylvain, despite the sceptism am sure you will get the chance you deserve to prove your worth at our great club!! I do agree the fee seems high for a 31 yr old, but at least he has played at left back as well! Am still hopeful another centre back will be signed, as there will be plenty of fixtures coming up so we defo need cover. COYB!!!!!!!!

Thursday 27th August 18:59 Report Comment

Adam LaffoleyI will admit I would have rather seen Steven Taylor, but experience can be an intergral part of the game sometimes and Distain has bags of that. Hopefully we can still get Taylor. Elm has gone to Alkmaar so thats that, looks like he could have been great but alas. Lets hope Defour is on the cards instead. ps Rodwell is looking sharper and sharper brilliant game again tonight.

Thursday 27th August 18:55 Report Comment

Alexandar JovanovicI like having Distin here at Everton, I'm just not sure whether 31 year old player is worth giving 6 mil...remember that we payed 4 mil for such players like Jags and Joleon, but we are the only ones to blame for the situation we are in so I really hope Distin proves me wrong with his performances.

Thursday 27th August 18:42 Report Comment

joseph sagei would have rather seen us try and sign cahill from bolton, im not really other the moon with this one. i watched distin against arsenal at the weekend and he looked pretty poor and the reported 6 mil for a 31 year old is a bit steep. but i hope he proves me wrong none the less. now lets get a new rb and playmaker. ps. whats going on with banega and elm. coyb

Thursday 27th August 18:20 Report Comment

Gwyn RowlandsJoleon who? Sky stats had Distin ahead of Lescott on clearences so will be a useful addition just hope he can form a good partnership with Jags, I still think Steven Taylor would of been the perfect partner for Jags

Thursday 27th August 18:14 Report Comment

Dan DickensonI blindly follow Moyes but don't really rate Sylvain Distin but I've been pessimistic about some of Moyes signings in the past and they've proved me wrong e.g. Yakubu and now I rate Yakubu with the best of them. Lets hope this is another of Moyes great buys. COYB!
