Distin Back In Training

Frenchman returns to training after 5-week absence with hamstring problem.

Distin Back In Training
Sylvain Distin

Sylvain Distin is back in training.

The Frenchman has been sidelined since early December when he aggravated a hamstring problem playing against AEK Athens.

Previously, Distin had made himself a regular starter at the heart of Everton's defence.

He's now looking forward to returning to action, but refuses to name a fixture in which he's hoping to feature.

"I started training on Monday," he told evertonfc.com. "I've been out for a bit more than five weeks, almost six weeks.

"I don't think it's the longest injury I've had in my career but it's very frustrating. I've got no choice but to get on with it and make sure I come back ready and stronger than I was before."

Man City Strap

Distin's former club Manchester City visit Everton this weekend but the 32-year-old may have to wait for his return.

"I'm not really looking at one fixture because the first two weeks after my injury I thought it would keep me away for another week or a couple of weeks - but it's been longer than I thought," he continued.

"I will just try my best to be fit and ready as quick as possible, and then it's the manager's choice."

ned mccarthyDont think anybody has the right to slate hibbert anymore, and i used to myself, hes commitment is second to nobody, his tackling is excellent, ok his distribution isnt what it could be but defense wise hes top-notch. this been his best season in my opinion, covering CB when needed. In these hard times with injuries some players have really stepped up and in my opinion hes been great, also cannot wait to see hetinga and jags in the centre, two real old fashioned heart-on-sleeve defenders. FUTURES BRIGHT, THE FUTURES BLUE

DAVE HUNTERI partially agree with John about trying out the youngsters but not against the top teams who have quality players who could tear a defence apart and knock the young lads confidence, need to blood them against lesser opposition than City, Utd, Arsenal etc. The Derby is coming up soon could try them in that game ha ha. Good to see Distin back and I can see Senderos doing a job for us Wenger or Moyes don't normally buy duds, ok he never quite settled at Arsenal but come on if we do buy him don't start off disliking him, like a lot of so called Blues are with Hibbert, let's support them eh!!!

Gary EvertonI agree with Mark Lynch, ppl shouldnt be slating Senderos if we sign him (which i hope we do). As i look at it Neil is 31 and has made a few mistakes leading to goals, a few mistakes in 14 games is quite alot, also Distin is 32 hes a good CB but not long left of a career. Now Senderos has been a good player and still could be great, at only 24 im sure hes not finished yet and DM is the man to turn him good again, Heightinga, Coleman, Senderos, and Jags sounds good to me, would be good to keep Neil as a squad player but in a world cup year when he is ausie captain he wouldnt settle for that. COYB!

Mike WilliamsDuffy did well when he played in Europe but I do not think he is yet ready to play a full part in our league campaign. As Lawrenson says on the BBC, we are set up to have a really strong last third of the season; I believe we will re-qualify for Europe. However we will only do this if we have our strongest squad available. I agree that using Neville at RB is sensible, as we need his organisational ability on the pitch, we can then have Coleman on the bench if we need to add pace dwn the flank. I would be happy to have Heitinga continue as the right-sided Centre Back alongside a soon to be fit Jagielka or Distin. We do need generally to get the ball forward more quickly from midfield, although we did this well against Arsenal.

John ByrneGood to see Distin on the way back but really disappointed we are letting Lucas Neill go for a lousy 750k, what is that going to get us in this day and age? Talk of Senderos coming, I'd rather have kept Neill. With the luck we have with injuries...there's no such thing as too many players, especially ones with Neill's experience, bad move i think.

John CullyIts time to start blooding a few more of the young lads in defence and see what they are made of. I know its the most dangerous position to be taking risks with but looking at the way the season has gone so far and im not being pesimistic but i dont think we are gonna finish too high up the league this season . We have a good chance in the Europa and the FA cup but as far as the league goes i think we should try the likes of Duffy , Mustafi and Rodwell in central defence. For a few games at least.

Mark LynchI see its happening already, Senderos hasnt signed(this is only speculation)but your slating him already, if he does Sign then that means that DM knows what his capabilities are and is most certainly the right man to get the best out of him as has been proved time again, and for the record i am not a fan of senderos, but if moyes wants him the there must be something that he rates about him simpulssss come on guys KEEP THE FAITH ;^)

mike chubbHope you're back soon Distin, then we won't sign Sendross as he would be a waste of money sitting on bench when everyone's back. Why not give young Duffy a go in the meantime, he looks a proper defender stopping anything that moves !!!

david harmanGlad to have another player back from injury but I must ask the question who replaces Neill is it one of the youngster`s like Coleman or does D.M have somebody lined up.

Simon Dohertyim dissapointed to see lucas neill leaving so quickly hes a good player, would have been good to have him for a back up. But saying that, im sure moysey has it all worked out allready and replacements in line. good luck with your new club lucas, also great to hear some of the lads coming back to training, its gonna be a good second half to the season COYB!!!

Alec WalkerNow let us see how Liverpool go on without their best striker and defender. Unless they go out and spend another £60.000

Thursday 14th January 19:50 Report Comment

jack seeryMoyes wouldnt just sell a player unless he would benefit from the sale ! neill played well in his time here and did his best while he was here. If neill is going then heitinga and jags will be our cb's as everybody has thought with yobo and distin as cover when everybody is fit.... i think killgalon from sheff utd will join in the summer who will provide cover at rb and cb ! the money recieved from neill must be going on transfers - probably fees to get players on loan as it is only a small sum - we dont want to sign senderous he isnt good enough for our club ! id rather play hibbert or duffy at cb and phil neville at rb until yobo or jags are back and bring in players for midfield

Mike WilliamsGlad Distin is on his way back. As per other comments I am disappointed that Lucas Neil is leaving, he has been a good player to have at the club over the last few months and has made a really valuable contribution.

Thursday 14th January 19:26 Report Comment

shaun mccloskeyGreat news about distin but is it really good about Neil. Obviously he wouldnt have been first choice when jags is fit however he is good cover and i am very suprised. Lets just hope we have someone else lined up as a replacement as we are short on numbers. Good luck Lucas for you time in turkey. Thanks for your services to this great club.

Thursday 14th January 18:41 Report Comment

David LoganSad to see Lucas Neill leave - he came in and done a reasonably good job for us. Does that mean Senderos will come to club either on loan or permanently? Distin is some way of fitness. Yobo is in Africa. Jags is still not fit. Or will Duffy play against City?

Pearse DoreWith our players returning and Liverpool's key players sidelined, it will be a shock if we dont beat them on the 6th of february. COYB!

DAVE HUNTERGood to see Distin on his way back, Nice to read the comments by Lucas about how much he has enjoyed his time at Everton and was surprised to be let go. Good luck to him in Turkey. Not 100% sure about Senderos had some dodgy games for Arsenal but may have needed time to settle into the Arsenal way of playing. If we do get him I am sure Phil Neville in no uncertain terms will tell what is expected

Thursday 14th January 16:48 Report Comment

John HauIt's good news to have Distin back soon, I hope that would not be an excuse we don't find a replacement for Neill, we are short on number and Senderos or Kalgallon would be a good replacement, go get them!

Thursday 14th January 16:40 Report Comment

Nik AllenThis seems stupid business to me. He's way better than Distin even at centre back. Also has the guy who left the last comment watched us as he must have missed Heitinga because he's been awesome at centre back would like to see him along side Jags when he's back.. Hope we don't bother with Senderos would rather see one of the kids play. Also hope everyone enjoyed the game last night as much as me.

Thursday 14th January 16:25 Report Comment

Simon ParkesGood news regarding Distin although he needs to improve on his performances before he got injured. Good business for Neill, can't wait for Jags and Heitinga at centre half!!! Moyes isn't daft and will have someone lined up to cover over the coming weeks.

Thursday 14th January 16:23 Report Comment

Adrian CappsI am pleased to see some movement on the injury mis fortunes we have had. Well done to the lads who have covered too. I am shocked at the Neill sale too does not make sense if it was for 2 million may be I would feel better but cause of his age I suppose. Just hope we have some one lind up and quick does thic mean we are after 3 to 4 players, rather than 2 to 3 ????? We can but hope come on lads for Saturdays win against the siteh

Thursday 14th January 16:17 Report Comment

Brian FarrellWonder who will partner Jags when everyone is fit? Heitinga is doing well for us as a CB and Distin looked on top form in his first few games.

thomas ainsworthWell,He's gone.Which means, dont be suprised to see Senderos here in the next few days.Excellent business from the MOYESIAH.Thanks to Lucas for his efforts to the Cause while he was here.Good luck at Galatasaray friend.

Thursday 14th January 16:06 Report Comment

Mark Lynchwell this is good news, the worst hit area with the injuries was the defence, Hopefully Neill will play his heart out for his last game if he features!!!, this is certainly one area we need to strengthen not weaken, but hopefully Moyes was privvy to the exit before hand and agreed, and this isnt something that has been done without his consent!!! KTF

Thursday 14th January 15:44 Report Comment

lee thrieplandgreat news, but i cant work out why we have sold neill, i can only imagine that moyes has senderos lined up, jags isnt fit yet, yobo isnt good enough we are short at centreback, neill isnt 1st choice but good cover, maybe moyes needs £700,000 more to buy john terry ha ha i wish!!!!

Thursday 14th January 15:25 Report Comment

Walter Raineygood to see a real centreback getting fit again. No disrespect to hibbo, heitinga or neill. Any chance of an official statement ont he Lucas Neill situation? At least to say we're in talks with them
