Castillo Signing Completed

by Matthew Gamble | Thursday 28 August 2008, 18:06

Everton have completed the signing of Segundo Castillo.

The midfielder joins on a season-long loan from Red Star Belgrade.

Castillo passed a medical at Finch Farm on Thursday and subsequently received a work permit from the Home Office.

He then put pen to paper on the deal and became Everton's second signing of the summer.

The Ecuadorian is a defensive midfielder who played for El Nacional and El Deportivo Espoli in his homeland before heading for Eastern Europe. He will wear the number 8 jersey this season.

Everton must now wait to see if international clearance for the player is received in time for him to feature against Portsmouth on Saturday.

After signing, Castillo told evertonTV: "I know that Everton are a big club who have a history of playing in important competitions like the Uefa Cup.

"I hope I can do my best for the team."

evertonTV will bring you the full, exclusive interview with the new man later this evening.

G8 news that we have started to recruit but a bit worried they are all season long loans, for the long term we should be tying down world class players on long contracts otherwise we will loose any continuity that we may build on at the end of this season .. come on Everton lets spend some of that cash you have told us we have !!!!

Great to add another defensive player. Now we need to add attacking players. It is great to have it done on loan and save us cash for January transfer while the board and the scouts can buy time to work with agents of some disgruntled players elsewhere. Look at Man City, they are now in debt just to buy players and hope they perform before the deadline. We should give Moyes credit to be able to get loan deals and use the cash wisely on deserving players. Well done Moyes. Welcome Castillo!
