Cahill: Others Envy Us
Midfielder says Everton have created a blueprint for rivals to follow.
Tim Cahill believes Everton have created a blueprint for other Premier League clubs to follow.
The Australian midfielder says the Toffees are the envy of other top flight chairmen following the successes they have had on a comparatively low budget.
Cahill has helped Everton to successive fifth-place finishes in the Premier League and propelled them to a first FA Cup final in 14 years.
Costing a reported £1.5million five years ago, the former Millwall man is a typical example of the shrewd signings on which manager David Moyes has galvansied the Goodison outfit.
"When you see clubs like Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea spending their hundreds of millions and Arsenal you can understand why they are there and why, when they are not winning the Premier League, they are getting questioned," said Cahill.
"For ourselves, spending £20-£30million a season and our achievement I think a lot of other chairmen will prefer to be doing what we're doing.
"They see the manager and the players believing and wanting to play in every game.
"Whether we have got knocks and kicks, [we still show] the passion and the character in every game."
With the league season behind him, Cahill's attentions now turn to securing Australia's place at next summer's World Cup in South Africa.
Following a near flawless campaign to date, the Socceroos need only a point from Saturday's clash with Qatar to ensure qualification.
Quashing rumours he could miss the game in Doha, Cahill said he was feeling fitter than ever - before stating his intention to play in another two World Cup tournaments.
"I'm anxious to play in the next game for Australia because I want to qualify for the World Cup," said the midfielder, who turns 30 this year. "It [the injury] was a bang on my hip. It's pretty sore but you get loads of knocks and just get on with it.
"I am fully fit, flying, I am feeling in the shape of my life.
"I want to play as long as possible. Definitely 35 is a target and after that we will see. 2014? Most definitely."
