Cahill A Doubt For Carlisle

Sore ankle means midfielder will be monitored ahead of FA Cup clash.

Cahill A Doubt For Carlisle

Everton will closely monitor the fitness of Tim Cahill ahead of Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against Carlisle United.

The Australian limped off during Monday's 2-0 win against Burnley at Goodison Park with a sore ankle and was replaced by fit-again captain Phil Neville.

David Moyes reported after the game that Cahill had been removed as a precaution and the Everton medical team will assess the 30-year-old’s progress in the coming days.

Moyes is also hopeful of handing Neville a further runout after the midfielder reported no problems following his 30-minutes against the Clarets. It was the midfielder's first appearance since suffering knee ligament damage at Fulham in September.

“It's great to have Phil back because he's so important to us,” said Moyes. “It's going to take him time to get up to match speed so we've got to be careful that we're not rushing him.

“He's keen to get back which is exactly what we want and hopefully we'll look to see if he's available for the game on Saturday and if he is that will be good for us.”

david harmanWhy not let some of the youngsters prove their worth on Saturday, we are well aware that Coleman can make a big impact given the chance, so why not add him and a couple of others to the mix and rest a couple of the first squad.

Ivan AdamsI would say play the same team as we did on the last UEFA cup at home against BATE wth Vaughan replacing Yakubu. We have away to Arsenal and Home to Man City next so its important that we keep our 1st team fresh and ready for those prem games!

Dennis SequerahI'd say give him a rest, think premier league should remain the priority..I'd like to see Donovan though if he's eligible to play

DAVE HUNTERTime to give some of our players a rest, quite a few have played in most games and deserve a break, I am sure we could win with Hibbert, Neville, Yakubu Pienaar and a few youngsters

Neil MartinIf there is any doubt about Cahill's fitnes or anyone else for that matter! leave them out against Carlisle. I'm not saying play all the kids again but surely we could rest a few and still beat them. Would like to see Coleman given a start and maybe give Vaughn longer playing time.

alexis leungPlaying Carlisle at home shouldn't be too difficult ..... I would rather take 3 points back from the Emerates Stadium. Pay back time. Another thing : it's almost January 2010..... where is Jags? Where is Arteta?
