BYE-BYE BELLEFIELD

Special series in the week Everton's squad says goodbye to Bellefield.

BYE-BYE BELLEFIELD

On Tuesday, October 9 2007 Everton's Bellefield training ground played host to its last ever senior first team training session.

After more than 60 years as a training facility for the Everton squad, the Blues have now departed their home in the West Derby area of Liverpool - bound for a new state-of-the-art training complex at Finch Farm in Halewood.

To mark this historic occasion - evertonfc.com has devoted a section of the site to the famous old Bellefield facility (CLICK HERE). Over the next four days, beginning today (Friday) new content will be added related to Bellefield - plus a special section of evertonTV has been created to mark the departure from Bellefield.

The evertonfc.com section includes image galleries, interviews and reminiscences from some of the most famous names from the Club's glorious history.

Bellefield has proved the bedrock for many successful Everton sides. It was first made available to the Club as a training ground in 1946 following the Second World War.

The site was then purchased from the owner, Mr Tyson, in 1965 and work began on turning the site into a modern new training facility.

That work was completed in the summer of 1966 - with the new buidling opened by Mr J Richards, the president of the Football League, on July 12, 1966. It was a memorable summer for Everton and English football - coming as it did just weeks after the World Cup success and in time to welcome new summer signing Alan Ball.

A state-of-the-art facility at the time - Bellefield has served Everton well. But 41 years after its redevelopment the Blues are moving to a purpose built new facility providing greater space and the opportunity for the Everton senior squad and Academy to be based in the same location.

But the memories of Bellefield will endure - click here to visit the 'Bye-bye Bellefield' section of evertonfc.com.
