Brett Angell thinks that Andrew Johnson and Yakubu can form a formidable strike partnership next season.
The former Everton striker was at Goodison recently taking part in a charity football match and although he only made 20 appearances, he has kept a keen interest in the Blues, and has given his views on the current striking situation.
A year on since Yakubu joined the Toffees, Angell thinks that the Nigerian international has settled as an Everton player and boasts the perfect attributes to link up with Johnson.
And it is the kind of attacking force that a team needs if they are to mount a real challenge for a top four finish.
The former Everton striker exclusively told evertonTV: “I think Yakubu and Andrew Johnson both give you something different, I think everybody knows that Yakubu gives you goals.
“I think there were a few problems during January where David Moyes found a problem with the player’s work rate. But that was sorted and he appears to be putting in that extra bit of work rate needed, which the team as a whole benefits from.
“Andrew Johnson gives you the option of tremendous pace and I think at times when things aren’t quite going to plan, you can knock they ball over the top and Johnson will chase after it, putting defenders under pressure and gives you a different output. It’s all about balance and I think that they both give you the balance needed.”
Other than playing for the Blues, Angell had stints at a number of other clubs including QPR, Port Vale and also had a loan spell at Preston North End under the management of David Moyes!
And 40 year old former Everton player has explained how he always knew that Moyes would go on to be a top manager.
He continued: “I was privileged to play very briefly under David Moyes when he was just starting his managerial career at Preston and it doesn’t surprise me that he has managed to do what he has done at Everton.
“It doesn’t surprise me that he has shown the ability to bring out the best in players and I’m sure he’s now looking for that extra bit of icing on the cake that everyone is looking for.”
