Boss Hails Howard

Boss Hails Howard

David Moyes was delighted to see Tim Howard take the plaudits following Everton's penalty shootout win over MLS All Stars.

The American keeper was named the MVP having saved three penalties in a shootout which went to sudden death after the game finished 1-1 in 90 minutes.

And some saves they were! With Howard pulling off a series of fine saves to keep Everton in the clash. It was all the more special for the keeper as he was on home soil.

"He proved himself to be one of the national heroes as far as footballers go over here," Moyes told evertonTV.

"He should get a lot of plaudits because he saved the penalties really well and he played well in the game as well."

Despite the scintillating finish, Moyes was keen to reiterate that the game against the All Stars was only part of the team's pre-season preparations and he would much prefer to get a victory at Arsenal on the opening day of the Premier League season.

"Today it was a practice and hopefully we'll learn from it," he continued. "I think in a friendly game it's exciting for the supporters to see it.

"It was a tough game for us, I think we played well in the opening 20 minutes and were unlucky to not be two goals up, but in the end they got stronger - they could deal with the altitude better.

"The workout was important. The result is important in all football games but obviously I'd rather get a result against Arsenal in a few weeks."

Glenn RossTim had a great game and Saha looked pretty sharp but the best players on show for me were the two Freddies, that is Ljunberg and Montero, the youngster from Colombia must be worth a try out?. COYB.

Hugh DanielsI also watched the game here in the US - really top class Tim performance, never mind the pen saves. Sorry to say, the rest of the lads looked like a mid table Chanpionship team - again we had no bite up front and midfield was a desert (really missed Pienaar). We need that new blood urgently!!! COYB!!!!!!!

chris loinestim howard is one of the best goalkeepers in the premiership. and it hurts me to say that because he came from man u. and he's probab;y the best goalkeeper of all time for everton even better than neville southall. Also even though alot of people dont like are new home and away kits. i think there good and different but i think the white one we played in is alot nicer than are current away kit though. and i hope that becomes are 3rd kit

David GrundyWell done Tim. Especially nice for you in the U.S.A. Maybe we can go into penalty shoot outs with more confidence after the semi-final against Man U and now this. Well done Tim and lets break your record in the Premiership again this year!!

Matt TuncWell done Timmy. Two of my favoured players are both named Timmy, or do they prefer Tim?? Trial game or not, great result, good effort as per usual. It seems the players know what is expected and what to expect. They seem to know who is in the first 11 when it counts and how that first 11 should represent the proud club of Everton. They have represented us proudly for a few years now. They're getting ready for 2009. Unlike some of our supporters who seem to navigate toward the "negative" for the last few off seasons, waiting for a bunch of signings every summer knowing full well that we do not have the funds or standing to match the bigger European Clubs. And yet they wait, every year. And our proud club continues to surprise them and please them with the team WE ALREADY HAVE. Please accept or club, with the obvious GOOD and bad, celebrate or win against the yank all stars, stop becoming negative in the off season and trust that MOYES and TEAM are ready for ANOTHER GOOD SEASON.
