Blues Reject Lescott Bid

Everton Football Club has today formally rejected an offer from Manchester City for defender Joleon Lescott.

City made contact with the Club on Thursday, tabling a bid of £15 million for the England international defender.

“As a Club, we have publicly stated – as recently as Wednesday night – that we do not intend selling any players,” said Everton Chief Executive, Robert Elstone.

“David Moyes’ primary focus is on building a squad so that we can continue to compete effectively in what is the most competitive League in world football."

John HauIt's great we have rejected this offer and I certainly hope what ever future offer we did receive for Lescott would also be rejected! We have a team of decent player but the problem is we have such a small squad after couple of player left us at the end of last season and it looks like we are trying to address the issue by strengthening our right side with our attempt of signing "Kyle", and that didn't go well. It just amaze me how our beloved club manage to disappoint us summer after summer. Can we not sign a player or two before end of July? Are we not looking to finish in the Top 4 this coming season? If so, then at least sign the number of quality player that Moyes need , so he could at least make a good attempt on it. I have faith with most of our current squad, but we really do need to add some more quality player in our squad, so, please don't disappoint the fans any further.

james obrienI know some people are worried about Lescott not coming out and saying that he wants to stay is the big problem. What if Lescott just isnt interested in the speculation and the bid and just wants to get on with focussing on the challenge that lies ahead with everton. He has been praised by other players at the club by the way he has handled all the speculation and has just got on with it. Most of the time if a player wants to go his focus is lost and they normally hand in a transfer request immediatley. I just like the way the club as awhole just get on with things and dont involve themselves with the press. For that reason the press try and unsettle the club and the fans. coyb

Jordan GillenOk, Jole, youve got to stay big guy. We are the peoples club for a reason, we are one of the most respected teams in the league, Man City are slowly becomming the most hated. I feel if we are to progress into champions league we need to keep Lescott. Nothing Less Than 81M for big Jole!!! (Too Us He's Worth It)

Declan Ryanthe least we should take is 26 mill + micah richards or 20 mill + micah richards and elano!! richards can play at RB and we have yobo to cover CB if we do sell, having richards and elano would sort that whole right side and leave us with 20 mill spending money to strenghten the squad!!

Wayne InstoneI think its important that David Moyes looks for a replacement for Lescot asap. It is clear that City want him and everyone has a price, so expect them to be back knocking on the dorr with more cash. I think he is overpriced, a good defender, but I think I would sell him for 20 Million plus.

Saturday 18th July 13:56 Report Comment

Tom BellWe'll have to sell him if we wanna buy anyone.. I hope we don't but it doesn't look good.. I reckon we should ask for 30 million? Why not? He's an England international who's proved himself consistently in the premiership - If he's gotta to go then we should rinse City for as much cash as possible.. maybe even ask for 40mill? He's worth that to us.

colin campbellIt's a shame about Naughton. The Gaffer is standing firm and good him, it would be easy to sell Lescott and buy other players but there is a bigger long term future. Once we get the green light for Kirkby we will have a buyer for the club. Once we have this decision an investor is able to take a long term strategy and Moysey will be able to demonstrate this ability with the youth and depth in the squad. As they say..."If you build it they will come!" In Moyes I trust and know that we are where we need to be right now. COYB.

Gary AllenI, along with many don't want to se anyone go but if the price rises do we have to be realistic and accept thet we need income? Jags has been supreme, yobo hasn't been his best with injuries, but came good towards the end and Baines was a revelation in the second half of last season. Lescott, well I love the guy but when the England talk starts his club form suffers so it's down to his commitment to the cause. I believe he has a blue soul so should be kept at all cost. If he wants to go, don't ley it be cheapley.

eric mcnamara15Million LOL are City trying to be funny, I think we are getting pretty sick of them at this stage, Hughes is effectively having a real life championship manager scenario with the club right now. total shambles imagine trying to manage them. A full strength Everton squad would easily finish above them IMO. In fact Everton are prima donna contenders for top 4/5 material I would think, even with no 'major' signings. Our best team is a handful for any team at this stage, but we are still going to be pushed all the way with squad numbers so lets hope we can sign some quality soon.

Alastair ConnellIf players choose money over the blues then that's up to them. It's their loss. Moyes has built a great team ethic built on much more than wage packets and this is a breath of fresh air in current 'city' climate. I would personally hate for us to become rich overnight and recruit on £'s only. Not our style. Not moysey's style. In time the city, Chelsea revolutions will be short lived and the solid foundations we have built will come true. Coyb's. Lescott to stay.

Mark Marlow Glad to see we have rejected the bid for Lescott , he is a great player and we must keep him , well done Everton . Its sad to see Naughton go to Spurs but it's LIFE ! , Sheff utd wanted as much money as they could get for him and I am sure Spurs will pay him more money in wages . Everton have not been able to compete financially against the major clubs , that is our situation , alas . We have paid the price over the years , but it seems a shame that we announce record profits and then don't spend the money on players , better players mean better results , which means more success and then you will get MORE fans wanting to watch the Team . If the fans want a better team then how many of them would be willing to pay more money at the turnstilles to achieve that better team ? , not many I am guessing in times of recession but it is money that wins football matches sadly , COYB !!!!!! .

james obrienciaran. What use is it having Richard Dunne back? he is overweight gives away penalties on a regular basis, gets sent off regularly, makes far too many costly mistakes and isnt half the player that Lescott is. Lescott should not be for sale at any price. He is pure quality. We need to keep hold of our best players Im just well pleased we are a club that lets the manager decide who we keep and who we sell. Fair play to Bill Kenwright and Robert Elstone. In Moyes we trust.

Kevin Jamesjust read on skysports.com that spurs have won the race for naughton and walker. And so it begins, what do we have to do to convince players to join us. it's obviously to do with wages. This seems to happen every year and i'm stunned that naughton has agreed to join spurs he obviously has no intentions of developing his career, just fill his pockets with extra cash. I'm starting to get worried that maybe this season isn't going to be one to remember.

Jon SummerLoyalty doesn't come in to it with footballers these days, if they get a wiff of more money they're off so don't be suprised if Lesscott does go. Remember once a blue always a blue? I'd have played for Everton for nowt, but I'm an Evertonian, Lesscot isn't. I 'd love him to stay, it would a big boost to the team and to the Fans, but I'll be supprised if He stays. He could of said City NO, I'm staying but he hasn't, if money is your God, Good bye

Jack FarronI think that the EvertonTV team have to do their utmost tomorrow night to get an interview with Joleon to either declare his loyalty to Everton or declare his greed!!! Only then will I be satisfied that all this can be done with and we must then get the Naughton deal tied up wheter he goes to us or Spurs. After that, we must cut of all ties with both Sheffield United and Spurs or any team that Harry Redknapp manages in the future. I could definately see Redknapp trying to come in for Arteta or Yakubu or Vaughan next season but just reject them outright even if we ever did want to sell them!!!! COYB!!!!!!!!

Friday 17th July 18:11 Report Comment

Dan NallyTo be honest, £25million and Micah Richards, that would be a deal. Then we go for Defour and Huntelaar and a right-back, seeing as Harry 'I use Sky Sports News Instead of Scouts' Redknapp has pretty much stolen Naughton from us. Why don't we go for Van Der Vaart as well, these are the players we should be looking at or Mancini on loan like West Ham, he's still a quality player, we need to up the calibre of player we're looking for, we need some real classy players to back up our already classy players like Arteta and Pienaar! if the player doesnt say, "im here to stay" then i think we should cash in when city offer 25m plus, they wont go away if they want him, hes a great player but personally i think he was average last season, if lescot is worth 20m then phil jag is worth 50. on another point, dafour from leige would be a great buy, if naughton wants to go and join the other 6 full backs at spuds then he should, he will do nothing there.

John DaviesJoleon Lescott's name has held the back of my shirt for the last three seasons, and i hope that he will remain at Goodison Park for the forthcoming season. Manchester City unfortunately have such a narrow attraction - but a leathal one at that - MONEY! Not much else i'm afraid. If Joleon looks at the bigger picture he'll realise not only the progression of Everton Football Club but also his own progression during his time with us. He owes Everton a small token of loyalty for his chance in the Premier League. I would hope he honours his contract and sees out at least another 12 months with us. After all, have Manchester City finished the last three seasons consecutively with European Qualification and achieved an F.A Cup Final Apperarence anytime recently? No where near. I'm afraid if Lescott does leave then it'll say alot about the player and nothing good for Manchester City. I wouldn't like to know that as fan that players were joining us for single financial benefit and have no understanding or passion for the club. Fingers crossed Joleon sees sense and remains with Everton Football Club.

Simon BoothWhy hasn't Lescott come out and thanked Moyes for the loyalty shown when signing him after a long term injury, giving him his chance in the PL and moulding him into an international class versatile defender? We should building not taken apart the squad an Joleon is a key part of that plan. What really worries me though is what will the player be thinking himself ? We havent really brought in any big name players the Naughton deal looks dead in the water thanks to harry (Nab any player that Everton are linked with) Rednap and also If somebody will pay you 3x what you earn to do the same job it would be pretty tempting. Lets just hope though that its THE HISTORY + the quality football great fans and the blue of EVERTON FC that is more attractive to him rather than a full wallet. It would be really dissapointing to let him go but if its what he wanted and the price is right for the club to replace him and also bring in a quality player or two aswell then it could be good buisness and £5million well spent.

Neil SteeleWhat a rollercoaster being an Evertonian is hey!! On the one hand we have a record turnover, on the other the manager says he has no serious transfer funds and will have to sign Bosman type 'squad players'. On the one hand we have this powerful statement from the clb and everyone is saying 'yipee, well done Everton you tell em' but on the other I know for a cast iron fact Joleon Lescott will not be an Everton player come the start of the season. Judging by Robert Donoghue's response the club has done it's job though. Despite the continued lack of support for the manager, lack of any investment and lack of any realistic plan for the future the blame will be put squarely at the door of the player. "Let him go if he wants"..."We only want players who want to play for Everton". Get real lads. Top players who have ambition will neither sign for or stay with Everton when clubs with serious money and ambition come knocking. Until Mr Kenwright decides to relinquish control of his trainset nothing will change, groundhog day!!
