Everton's Academy players are benefiting from a new product that coaches believe will help cut out common injuries.
Young players are often troubled by problems such as shin splints. But the medical staff at the club's Academy in Netherton have taken advantage of a special footbed produced by Sole UK Ltd.
The US based firm is a leading figure in the production of footbeds from professional sportsmen and women.
Richie Porter, a physio from Everton's Youth Academy, has been delighted by the difference the Sole footbeds have made.
He told evertonfc.com: "Sports orthotics are widely used in Australia and North America to combat the stresses put on the feet of athletes caused by the heavy workloads they must endure.
"Because we deal with young developing 'athletes' I decided to invesigate the use of the products provided by Sole UK Ltd. These semi bespoke orthotics provide an exellent cost effective way to customise sports footwear and thus optimise performance.
"The use of sports orthotics are proven to minimise the symptoms of conditions such as 'shin splints' and Achilles tendonitis as well as hip and back problems. All of the players who have tried them at our club are very pleased with them and continue to wear the products to play and train."
