David Moyes has thanked makeshift striker Tim Cahill for firing Everton back towards the top four.
Injuries to Yakubu, Louis Saha, James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe incredibly left the Goodison chief with no recognised strikers during December.
But the Australian midfielder excelled in an advanced position, bagging winners against Manchester City and Middlesbrough.
His goalscoring antics aside, Moyes has been impressed with the 29-year-old's work ethic and unrelenting commitment to the cause.
“Tim has done a really good job for us in the last few weeks,” said Moyes. "He has relished playing up front and maybe that’s the reason he has come back into top form again - he’s enjoying playing with a little bit more freedom.
“It’s giving him the opportunity to attack more and it’s released him from the job he’d had to do before.
“We couldn’t be happier with him. I’d go as far as saying his performances have been the best from centre-forward that we have had this season. His effort has been tremendous.”
Since shaking off the foot injury which kept him sidelined for the first two months of the season, Cahill has played an increasingly important role in Moyes' side.
The Scot was willing to give the midfielder time to recover fully from the complicated surgery he underwent in the summer and feels he is now reaping the rewards.
“Maybe it took him a bit longer than we expected to get over the injury,” said Moyes. "But he’s looking sharp and working hard. The way he goes about his job has been pleasing to seeI have always thought that Tim had the talent to play as centre forward. I’m not surprised he has done so well in that role.”
