BENCH FOR NEW BOYS
David Moyes has chosen to stick with the players that helped secure European qualification as the Blues embark on their first game of the 2007/08 campaign this afternoon.
Summer arrivals Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar are on the bench, with Joleon Lescott continuing in the left-back role he occupied so successfully last term.
That means a place in the heart of defence for Alan Stubbs, who signed a new one-year contract in the summer.
He will partner Joseph Yobo in defence, with fellow Nigerian Victor Anichebe partnering England striker Andrew Johnson up front.
The midfield is occupied by Leon Osman, Lee Carsley, Phil Neville and Mikel Arteta.
Andy van der Meyde provides additional firepower from the bench, with Nuno Valente the defensive option.
With Iain Turner sidelined by a groin strain, young keeper John Ruddy takes his place on the bench as the cover goalkeeper.
