BEATTIE SIGNS! - EXCLUSIVE
Striker James Beattie has officially become Everton Football Club's record signing after putting pen-to-paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract at Goodison Park.
The 26-year-old has finally tied up the formalities of the deal following a medical at the club's Bellefield training ground and after agreeing personal terms with Goodison officials.
Southampton had earlier agreed a £6 million transfer fee with both Everton and Aston Villa and Beattie was left to decide where he wanted to continue his career.
That decision was made over the weekend and Beattie spent Bank Holiday Monday up at his new training ground finalising the deal and meeting his new team-mates and backroom staff.
The Blues new number 8 told evertonfc.com: "I'm absolutely delighted with the move. The chairman and the manager said how much they wanted me and wanted me to be a part of an Everton team that's doing really well.
"I was impressed with what they had to say. The direction of the club and where David Moyes wants to go with the Chairman's backing and obviously the position that we're in at the minute has made the decision very easy."
Blues Boss David Moyes added: "We are really pleased we have got him. We have kept up-to date with his developments and we feel pleased he felt Everton is the right choice for him.
"His record stands up with all the strikers in the Premier League. He will be a good centre-forward for us here and his goals will hopefully be important."
