Arteta Setback
Mikel Arteta has suffered a setback in his fight to regain full fitness.
The midfielder, out of action since damaging his cruciate ligaments at Newcastle United back in February, was due to rejoin training at Finch Farm next week but Head Physio Mick Rathbone has revealed that will now not be the case.
"Mikel was doing really well and was bang on schedule but he's had a slight problem with some of the stitching inside the knee and that's been irritating him for a while now," he explained.
"So the specialist has decided to take them out and ease the aggravation. It's a setback but it's only a blip. It's a case of weeks rather than months."
Mikel had his operation in Spain and has been largely looked after by his own physio since then, making frequent trips to his homeland for assessments.
"This won't affect the overall return of Mikel Arteta, it's just put a new timescale on it. It's just unfortunate but the stitches are out and it will be fine now," concluded Rathbone.

Paul Ellamlosing arteta is a big blow, we are already stretched with our squad numbers. what grinds my gears is that feeling of deja vu from last year - we havent learned! we left all our transfer dealings far too late and as a consequence we have had a really bad start again. im still quite confident we can push on and challenge once more for european places but im not sure we can match last seasons results. i hope we can buy in january but by then we might be too far behind. at least we will make plenty of cash from the europa league but will any of it be spent on signings and will we leave it til too late again next year to complete any deals?? LEARN FROM THE PAST MISTAKES PLEASE!!!

brennan finneganWell said Xeno. Two years in a row wed have made no signings if it wern't for the cash from sales. Mr K has been a great ambassador for the club, but with no financial input its time to move on, as the club wont, with him at the helm.

John HauI hated to know rumour like this was proven to be true, but at least Arteta could only be out for up to 6 weeks, so if we are lucky we might even see him training with the rest of lads toward the end of October, let's hope this time the problem is sorted and we could have our Arteta back into the team. Looks after yourself and looking on the bright side now you get to spend a little bit more time with your wife and the baby, enjoy!

Stephen EvansWhilst it is obvious how much Mikel means to the team it proves to me that we needed to invest more in the summer. I also question the mathematics of our CEO but even if the club added £6 - £8 million in addition to the Lescott money this was not enough if we are to progress further. Hopefully the business DM did will see us through but we still need additional "class". People looking to invest in Premiership for fun but we can't get any of it. Previous comments have suggested a share issue with limited rights, for fans, to raise cash and I still think that this may prove popular with the fans. Hurry back Mikel

Xenophon LawOnce again, this shows that our board should have backed Mr Moyes with more cash in the transfer market. With Arteta out we will be relying too much on Peinaar producing the goods in midfield. It's a shame Banega dropped us to continue in Spain but I don't blame him for that. If we could have brought in Steven Defour we wouldn't have to worry about Arteta too much. So thats my January wishlist signing....Steven Defour. Please sort it Mr K! And Manny Fernandes is injured for the rest of the season I found out. Just in case anyone wanted to know.

Paul HowellsI doubt Micky will be in the 2010 England squad Dan, especially since he publicly announced that he was flattered that the England fans would want him but he would only ever paly at international level if it was for Spain. Also, I read somewhere that just before Micky got this injury the Spain head coach had told him in private that he would be in the squad for a forthcoming friendly, which would have been his foot in the door. Anyway, back on subject, gutted about the setback but I think like all evertonians I would rather wait that extra couple of weeks and have Micky 100% match fit than rush him back and get him injured again. As a few people have mentioned Pienaar is doing well and we've got Billy to look forward to as well. Chin up Micky, you'll be back before you know it.

Richard GreyAaaaaaaaaaah! This is so annoying! We need you back Mikel! Why did you and Jags have to get injured in the same season! You're right Dan Dickenson, Moyes doesn't have any luck! Imagine how amazing we'd be if he had some! Get well soon Mikel!

Dan DickensonAt least the set back isn't too bad. When I saw the headline "Arteta Setback" I thought the worst I expected that he had a fall on it and it would keep him out for a couple months. Lets face it Moyes is one of the best managers in the world but when it comes to LUCK Moyes has none. Can't wait for Arteta to come back along with Yakubu and Jagielka. You never know maybe Arteta can play in Englands world cup team in 2010. But i'm not sure when he can play for them because in Jan 2005 he only signed on loan so does that count? Gerrard, Lampard and Barry you better up your game or this guy will take your world cup place because he's the best little Spaniard we know!

Michael DunnA blow but I want him to be 100% when he comes back so he doesn't pick up anymore injuries through out the season due to being rushed back. Pienaar is playing well enough that we aren't missing him as much as I thought so get well so Mikel.
