Arteta: I'll Be Back Soon
The midfielder speaks exclusively to the evertonfc.com podcast.
Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta says he expects to be back in action for Everton sooner rather than later.
In an exclusive interview with the evertonfc.com podcast, the Spaniard revealed how he would be back in full training this week.
He’s already been training alongside his teammates and is now ready to step his comeback up once more.
"I have been doing nearly everything in training with the lads over the last week and I am hoping to start doing contact work this coming week,” Arteta told the evertonfc.com podcast.
"After that, whenever the manager says Mikky you are ready - I am there!"
It is 11 months since the Everton favourite was stretchered off in the 0-0 draw at Newcastle.
Since then the midfielder has undergone surgery on his cruciate knee ligament injury and endured a lengthy rehabilitation programme.
In November Arteta suffered a setback when he picked up an infection but now those problems are a distant memory for the Spaniard.
"Driving into Finch Farm on my first day back in training was really exciting,” he recalled. “It has been a long time out and there have been some tough times but hopefully all that is now gone.
"I am back into my fitness and I am back with the lads. I am really enjoying it at the moment."

Soccer LAI wake up at 6am on saturday mornings' to heckle Arsenal and Man City fans at a football pub in Santa Monica. So far i'm loving it!!! I hear some bitterness from non-Blues fans getting pasted around the pitch and can't help but smile for my new team. I sense a great chemistry! COYB from Los Angeles

Mark LynchI am so excited by this news i think i am going to run around the house all day Naked, singing Everton songs ;^)
Wednesday 20th January 09:36 Report CommentSoccer LAI know he is new to the Blues but with Arteta on right perhaps Donovan can play a roaming mid starting on the left (where he plays for the US team)? Either way Donovan has injected a speed and attack the Blues have been missing and he can be used in so many positions i'm betting he and Arteta will create a nice crafty attack. (by the way I love this and I love Everton) COYB

William Mc DonaldTake your time Mikel the guys are in brilliant form at present. Would hate to see you come back to early and get injured again, any way I would say the sight of you running around the training ground is keeping the lads on their toes for their place in the team.

Mark LynchThis is the best news we have had so far. I firmly believe that all those above us (villa spurs and City) are yet to have their bad spell, we have to make sure that we are there to capitalise and now with Mikky moo back (almost) i know that 4th spot can be ours. With the kopites in self destruct mode this could be our best season yet.. COYB........
Tuesday 19th January 20:19 Report CommentJohn MainwaringFantastic news! I'm sure Mikky will be roared onto the Goodison turf. Can't wait to see him back in action. He would be classed as a 50 mil signing if Man City's pursuit of Lescott is anything to go by.

Aaron MythenNick Clark your perfect team certainly looks great on paper and I am sure every Evertonian is simply watering at the mouth in anticipation.... However I think that you should in fact swap Arteta and Pienaar around in the line up....After all it was in the centre of midfield that we saw the very best of Mikel last season right before he got injured and I believe that is where he plays best!!!! God I CANT wait for the next game and for the first sight of Mikel and Jags back in the side!!!! COYB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday 19th January 17:29 Report Commentdavid harmannext to a win over any team this is the best news we could hope for lets hope Mikel has no more problems. HURRY BACK.

Corey McLeodYes.... Not much better news to hear really. The key player but he shouldn't rush into it and get himself injured again. Hopefully Jags to follow him and I think we can become contenders for Europe. 17 points of 4th and this if we beat the teams above us thats even less. The way this seasons been I'm hopeful.
Tuesday 19th January 16:48 Report Commentjason dunneive seen nick clarkes perfect team when jags and areteta comes back and its mouth wartering and all but less we forget the yak, vuaghn, rodwell,coleman and how can we deny the great donovan a place in the side he tor man city and arsenal apart with his pace, passes and dribbling moyes must sign him. we will have gone from a side with no players to a side with top quality players having to make do on the bench, what a change around. but one things for sure follow follow follow, everton the team to follow and theres no body better than mikel arteta hes the best little spaniard we know. :}

John ByrneIt will feel like we've just gone out and bought a new £20m player. Can't wait to see him back in a blue shirt, we probably won't see him back to his best til next season so we need to be patient. "There's nobody betta than Mikel Arteta"

Steve RossI just can't wait for next season now where hopefully we can compete with the top four from day 1 on the basis we'll have no injurys. Just hope we can retain our key players eg Rodwell and Fellaini etc and also add to the squad. Not sure letting Neill go was the right thing to do. I know this seasons been a bit of a write off but hopefully we'll challenge for fourth place provided we can get a few wins under our belt. I just hope Moyes stays to finish off the empire he's started. I'm sure he will.

chris skillicornSuddenly it's all looking rosey again, with the Spanish magician back in training and all the others on their way back, in a few weeks it will be a headache for Moyes on who to play, the list looks good, Peanut, Fella, Ossie, Arteta, Cahill, Rodwell, Billy, Neville all to choose from... mouth watering!! One thing I am dearly looking forward to is Saha feeding off Arteta's through balls, he can drop a ball on a sixpence something Saha will love, bring it on I can't wait.... and all just in time for the Derby.... Did anybody say REVENGE!!!!

darrell townsendJust two words that sums up the Everton board, the Backroom Staff, the Manager, The players, The Fans and Everyone that has anything to do with EFC .........SHEER CLASS! Please don't ever sell this great old club. After the atmosphere against City it will be hard to ever get anywhere near that in a new stadium. Forever Blue
Tuesday 19th January 12:32 Report CommentHugh MaloneNo disrespect to any of the players that have fought tooth and nail all season, we appreciate the effort it has taken from you all to just keep us afloat this season, however to have mikel back alongside pienaar, cahill, billy, fellaini, neville, rodwell etc is a frightening prospect. We've missed mikel in those tight matches when a pass or cross could swing it in our favour and now that he's back with saha on top form things are looking good once again. Maybe a cup run all the way this year and who knows what next term... In moyes we trust, and in everton we believe!!!! COYB

Thom LesterSince Mikel was injured Stevie Pienaar has stepped up as requested by David Moyes and transformed his own game to the next level. I've been saying for 10 months now how exciting our midfield will be when Mikel, Stevie and Tim are together in midfield. That excitement is about to be realised.
Tuesday 19th January 10:55 Report CommentDan NallyCan't wait to have Arteta back, being the genius he is! Also Moyesy lad, I would love to see Hatem Ben Arfa on loan til the end of the season and possibly Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on loan as he wants first team football! Tuesday 19th January 10:18 Report CommentAaron MythenAnd also whats more important we have not had to sell out to some rich overseas billionaire to achieve this proving that you cannot buy what we have at this club!!! ! David Moyes and Bill Kenwright have done this with hardly any money at all but this team has shown time and time again that you may be able to buy titles but you cant buy CLASS and COMMITMENT!!!!!!!

Aaron MythenWhen David Moyes took over this GREAT club we had a mediocre team with only a handful of internationals in the squad. And even those internationals were from ( without meaning to offend anyone ) poor international sides. Now our squad is full of exciting international talent backed up by some exciting young international prospects and is certainly the best and most excitng squad we have had in twenty yrs!! And yet our most gifted player is not even a full international...!!!! I cant wait to see our little Spanish magician back in the heart of our midfield alongside Felliani spraying balls all over the pitch and causing havoc for opposition defenses!!! Mikel everyone at this GREAT club knows and appreciates your amazing talent and recognizes that you should be playing for your country. And we cant wait to see you back in the blue of Everton!!! COYB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
