Rodwell Wants More

Rodwell Wants More

Jack Rodwell is hoping to taste more Wembley action.

Having scored there for England Under-16s in 2007, he then made a big impression as a second half substitute when Everton beat Man Utd in the FA Cup semi-final.

And after further impressive performances against the likes of Tottenham and West Ham recently, Blues manager David Moyes said he would be entirely comfortable with handing Rodwell a central role on 30 May.

"It’s nice to hear that my manager has confidence in me but there are some good players in my position so if I have to wait my turn then so be it, but if I get my chance then I’ll take it," Rodwell told evertonTV after picking up the Shareholders Young Player Award at the Club's end of season dinner this week.

"The squad’s strong at the moment so there is a lot of competition for places," he continued. "But it will be healthy and we’ll see what happens."

David GrundyIn my honest opinion, Jack is the best home-grown talent since Rooney. He has grown up at Everton and now looks every bit as exciting a footballer as Wayne did when he started to get onto the subs bench. I would like to see Jack groomed into the central defensive midfield role occupied by our skipper at present. I know Phil is providing loads of on and off the field coaching for Jack, and that's all credit to our togetherness and team spirit. We need to see Jack starting more games. His appearance against the Hammers showed just how comfortable he is on the ball and his passing with both feet is exceptional. We need to see where Jack plays best. If its at Centre Half, as we always believed he would become, the competition with 3 other class centre backs is a shame. Occupying the holding role just in front would be exactly what we need. Pip can rotate and even go back to full back. We have options. Lets hope that we don't see another "Once a Blue always a Blue" scenario and witness another wonder kid leave GP for one of the Big 4.
