Samuel Eto'o has announced his decision to retire from international football.

The Cameroon forward, who signed a two-year contract at Everton on Tuesday, revealed he was calling time on his international career via his Twitter account.

With 118 caps and a record 56 goals, Eto'o is Africa's most decorated footballer and has been crowned his continent's Player of the Year four times.

He tweeted: "I inform you that I am ending my international career. Thank you to all Africa, and to all my fans for your unconditional support."

It means Eto'o will now remain at Finch Farm for next month's international break as well as the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in the New Year.

He had previously featured at six AFCON tournaments and four World Cups, while he was also a part of the national side that clinched gold at the 2000 Olympics.

The news comes soon after Tim Howard's decision to take a one-year break from international football.

Kim NuukNo problem with his decision. I guess it was hard but its cool.
