Boss: We'll Need To Be Ruthless
Final-third sharpness will be pivotal, says Martinez.
Roberto Martinez says Everton will need to put on a show-stopping display of final-third ruthlessness if they are to give a packed Goodison Park a second successive victory over Arsenal this weekend.
The Blues boss is anticipating a Saturday tea-time feast of football when the two sides meet for the first time since Everton's clinical 3-0 victory over Arsene Wenger's men in April.
Martinez, however, knows his troops will be up against a Gunners brigade bolstered by the summer acquisitions of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy and high in confidence following their Community Shield victory over Manchester City and opening-day defeat of Crystal Palace.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Martinez said: "I think this Arsenal side are better than they were last season with the additions they have made. But they're very similar to us with the philosophy that they have.
"The way Arsenal play has earned a real sense of admiration from people in world football. At Goodison, we really enjoy our football and we can't wait to get our season started at home from that perspective.
"I think both teams are going to fight really hard to control the game and get on the ball. The difference is how good you can be in the final third."
A stirring performance saw Martinez's men come from behind to record a 1-1 league draw at Emirates Stadium last December before two late goals helped Arsenal exact revenge with a 4-1 win in the FA Cup in March.
The Blues then ran riot at Goodison in April - before being narrowly pipped to fourth by the Gunners at the end of the campaign.
"All three games last season were very similar," added Martinez. "Technically, they were the best performances you are going to see in a game in the Premier League.
"Both teams are ones that want to win the games by scoring goals and that's always going to make it an open game. As I say, it all depends on how sharp and how clinical you can be in front of goal."
